Funeral.
The funeral of the late Mrs. Johnson, nee Gussie Henderson, which occurred at Lime Springs, Iowa, on Sunday afternoon Jan. 7, 1900, was very largely attended and was a particularly pathetic and touching occasion. Mrs. Johnson was stricken down by the fatality which caused her death on Christmas eve while decorating her rooms for the coming festival as she intended to receive company on that day, but the last work of her hands which was of love and art were never finished but stood about and around her bier a touching lesson of the uncertainty of human life. Among her friends and relatives from abroad who attended her funeral were, Mrs. C.J. Henderson, of Postville; Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Ramsey, of Racine, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Henderson, of Riceville; Mr. Frank L. Henderson, of South St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. L. Durno, of Springville, Iowa; Miss Josephine Durno, Mrs. Frank Tuller and Mrs. Will Durno, of Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Markham, of Riceville; Mrs. O.C. Sheldon of Chicago, Ill.; Mr. Ralph Hall and Mrs. M.A. Williams of LeRoy, Minn.; and Mrs. Elmer Coffeen, of Waukon. Mrs. Johnson leaves a sorrowing husband and two young children aged respectively 3 years and 11 months, a bright and beautiful boy and the dearest of little girl babies. The good people of Lime Springs gave abundant evidence that they are full of human kindness and sympathy, and the friends at a distance will long remember the many acts of hospitality shown to them.
