Thursday morning between two and three o'clock, bank thieves broke into the bank at Elgin. It appears that they were frightened away because they did not break the safe open but only tok $21.00 which was lying loose and $15 worth of revenue stamps. The thieves must have come from Postville as they stole a horse and buggy of Oren Gordon with which to drive down there and make their getaway frm there. The trail was followed to Ossian where they purchased tickets for Minneapolis. From the descripton given by the station agent, the Minneapolis police believe one of them to be the notorious "Sioux City Kid".
