Postville Review
Postville, Allamakee Co., Iowa
August 26, 1898
FARM FOR SALE. A good farm of four hundred acres known as the
Elisha HARRIS farm, lying 3 1/2 northeast of Postville. Good
house and barn, well watered and wood on place. All but about 40
acres plow and grass land. Apply to Ellison ORR, executor.
Clara ALWARD enjoyed an outing at McGregor Heights.
Miss Marion MARCH of McGregor was the guest of Miss Grace McNEIL
a few days this week.
James McEWEN returned from his western trip on Wednesday, glad to
get back to civilization.
Will FITZGERALD and Lou HENDRICKSON drove over from Waukon last
Saturday returning on Sunday.
Mrs. F.D. BAYLESS and her sister, Mrs. HAGENSICK, of Elkader,
have been visiting here and at Ossian for a few days.
There was a good attendance at the funeral on Tuesday. The
services were conducted by Rev. SHUMAN, and were brief.
Miss Nellie HOLMES returned to her home at Avoca, Wis.,
Wednesday, accompanied by Mrs. COYLE, Mrs. HOLMES and Kenneth
SANDERS.

The managers of the Winneshiek County Fair have made a special
program for Tuesday, June 30th. On that day all children under 12
years will be admitted; over 12 and under 16 years, 15 cents.
Come and bring the little ones with you and attend the greatest
county fair that will be held in 1898.
The Fair management at Waukon are offering some fine prizes for
the school boys and girls to compete for, and you can depend upon
the management furnishing the prizes they offer this year. There
should be at least half a dozen contestants from Postville and
vicinity. September 21st -- Two grand prizes as follows:
1. Sixty dollar scholarship, by the Wisconsin Business
University, six months tuition free, in any department of that
institution.
2. Webster's International Dictionary, worth $15.00.
The subject of oration to be "The Importance of Business
Education" Conditions; competitors must be residents of
Allamakee county; age, 16 to 20 years.
With the exception of the World's Fair the Omaha Exposition is
the greatest of its kind ever held in the United States. The
Exposition will continue until Oct. 31 and during this time on
the B.C.R.& N. Ry will sell tickets from Postville to Omaha
and return, good 30 days, at the extremely low rate of $12.00.
