Typhoid fever seems to be getting a foothold. Mrs. RUSSELL died of it, Mrs. JENNEWINE, a son of Mr. HORRIGAN's and Mr. RILEY's son have it, but the latter is not a bad case. Others are ailing and we fear an epidemic of sickness as a result of the continued drouth and bad water. The utmost care should be used.
Mrs. J.R. LAUGHLIN and J.M. HARRIS returned on Wednesday from their Kansas visit.
We are indebted to our old friend, J.C. TAYLOR, of Emporia, kansas, for some beautiful samples of Kansas apples and sweet potatoes. Both are extremely large and fine. Our thanks are also due to Jas. HARRIS and Mrs. J.R. LAUGHLIN for bringing them.

Mr. SIMMONS, son-in-law of Elbe LAMBORN, has moved into the COURSON house, on Summer street. We like to see our houses filling up with good families like this.
John SCHULTZ received a dispatch Wednesday afternoon that his wife, who is visiting at Kansas City, was at the point of death. He left on the Burlington a few minutes later.
[President] McKINLEY has this week made the tour of Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan and tonight is in Grand Rapids. He is speaking from twelve to twenty times each day and evening.
Quite a number of people took advantage of the $2.50 rate to visit the twin cities last Saturday, G.W. HARRIS, Wm. HARRIS, Hans CHRISTOPHERSON and Tom CONDON being among the number. Also Mr. and Mrs. HARDWICK and Mrs. Dr. COLE.
On account of some difficulty in making a settlement John WILKE and Ed SWENSON have been delayed in getting off to Virginia as they expected.

All persons having useful clothing to spare are requested to leave it at the home of Mrs. KERR on or before Monday, Oct. 15th, when it will be sent to sufferers from forest fires or from the drought.
Our old and valued friend, Nate LAMBORN, is going to be a Postville citizen once more, having rented the PRESCOTT extra residence. We welcome this staunch republican to our "hearth and home."
Carl HOLTER, Wm. LEUI, Wm. SHEPHERD and John WATERS, four of Postville's city dads, drove over Sunday and in company with City Engineer BEATON examined our splendid waterworks system. Postville will bond to her limit and put in plant at once. They expressed themselves as well pleased. --West Union Argo.
