Dr. BECKER has been absent this week at Des Moines attending the state medical association. He will be at home this evening.
Luhman & Sanders caught twelve rats in a wire-cage trap on Tuesday night. This is taking advantage of misplaced confidence.
Our girls are getting to the front nicely with bicycles, quite a number having new wheels. Miss SKELTON is the last one reported.
John M. THOMA writes his folks that he is well pleased with the town, the firm and the store in which he is employed at Mechanicsville.
Mr. BURGESS, of Luana, had 3 horses killed or disabled by the cars one night recently. They got out in some way and got onto the track and were struck by one of the night trains.
We regret to learn that David RILEY's second daughter has been given up as hopelessly ill. Coming so soon after the death of the eldest daughter it is peculiarly sad, and the family have the sympathy of all.
Mrs. J.A. McKINNEY, formerly of Decorah, is running a boarding house in Chicago during the world's fair.
At the Epworth League convention held at McGregor last week Miss Hattie MOTT was elected recording secretary and Mrs. Bourland D. SMITH, treasurer. Miss Sarah STAFFORD, of St. Ansgar, formerly of Postille, was chosen first vice president.

DEATHS.
--Leonard STANDRING, a prominent and respected citizen of Decorah, since 1855, died suddenly at his farm home last Friday morning from a rupture of a blood vessel in the brain.
--In Postville, on Tuesday, May 2nd, 1893, of cerebro spinal meningitis, Willie SCHULTZ, son of Mrs. H.J. SCHULTZ, aged nine years, nine months and one day. The funeral took place from the house and services were held in the Lutheran church after the interment. Mrs. SCHULTZ has been severely afflicted during the past two years and we tender our earnest sympathy in her affliction, and also the other relatives.
--At her home in Hardin, of lung disease, May 4th, Miss Susan RILEY, aged 18 years. It is just four months since her older sister, Miss Della, yielded to the same disease. Both girls were amiable and attractive, leaving hosts of friends and a sadly stricken home. The funeral service to be conducted by Pastor HAND is appointed for 10 a.m., Saturday, at the home.
