John MOIR has sold his 40 acre farm south of town to Rev. J.
GASS.
Mrs. T.B. EASTON came down from Garner on Monday evening and Mr.
EASTON followed on Tuesday evening remaining over to the funeral
of Mrs. MOTT yesterday.
The Postville Pickets for their next meeting, next Monday
evening, will drive out to the farm of Deacon HENDERSON.
Among the many who are reported more or less seriously indisposed
we note Mr. and Mrs. A. HART, Mrs. Will LEUI, Mrs. GORHAM, Mrs.
BEEDY, Mr. A. ABEL. None, we hope, are dangerously sick. Mrs.
COYLE and her mother also have been on the sick list for several
days. R.N. DOUGLASS is also indisposed.
The town council very magnanimously granted the petition, asking
for a well at the corner of Tilden and Lawler streets and have
awarded the contract to A.W. LANGE.
BIRTH.John COON comes to the front with a
rarity, a girl baby. Good for Hardin.
DEATH.
Word reaches us this morning that Mrs. J. GLINES died at Dover,
N.H. last Monday. Thus one by one the old residents are passing
away.
OBITUARY.
Died, at her home in the Park hotel, in Postville, Dec. 12th,
1893, after a short illness, of typhoid pneumonia, Mrs. Hattie E.
MOTT, wife of Wm. MOTT, aged 57 years, 4 months and 29 days.
Hattie E. MISNER was born in the state of New York, July 13th,
1836. She was married to Wm. W. MOTT, Feb. 22nd, 1857, and, with
her husband, came to Iowa, Dec. 10th, 1862. She first joined the
Methodist church in 1860, and nobody has ever doubted the
genuineness of her christianity. She leaves no children of her
own to mourn her loss, but Mrs. T.B. EASTON was an adopted
daughter and she mourns as deeply as any child could. Mr. MOTT is
thus left alone to walk the balance of the journey of life. The
funeral obsequies were held from the Methodist church on Thursday
and the remains laid away to their final rest. [extracted from a
lengthly obituary]
DEMOCRAT DOTS. From the Waukon Democrat:
--Mr. and Mrs. Otto MICKELSON deeply mourn the loss of their
little baby girl, whose death occurred last Thursday from
whooping cough. Her age was 8 months.
--Will BURDICK and Harry ROBSON came up from Lansing on Monday to
renew acquaintanceship with their many Waukon friends. Postal
clerk BURDICK is soon to be promoted.
--Mayor S.F. CLINTON and City Clerk Will SHEPHERD, two as pious
and well behaved Postvillains as we know, were callers at Democrat
headquarters yesterday while in the city on business.
