Died.
Harriet Henderson, widow of Thomas Henderson, Jr., died at her
home in Postville, Iowa, February 10th, 1892. Mrs. Henderson was
born in Banoffshire, Scotland, January, 1820. She taught school
in her native land from 1840 to 1846. She was married to Thomas
Henderson, Jr., May 26th, 1846, and removed to the United States
the same year. They lived on a farm in Fayette Co., near
Postville. On the breaking out of our Civil war her husband
entered the army in 1861 to aid, as he firmly believed, in
destroying the greatest curse of our age and country -- slavery.
He was killed in the great batle of Shiloh, April 6, 1862. Since
that memorable day the subject of our sketch devoted herself to
the care of her small family. She was a member of the Baptist
church in Postville during the existence of that society, and
subsequently attended the M.E. church during the remainder of her
days. Rev. E.J. Lockwood, pastor of the M.E. church, conducted
the funeral service with an appropriate sermon from the 15th
verse of the 17th Psalm.
Card of Thanks.
We wish to express our sincere thanks to the neighbors and
friends who so kindly assisted us in the sickness and death of
our mother. E.T. & W.A. Henderson, Mrs. M.A. Ruff
Married. Bernhart-Anderson. At the M.E.
parsonage, in Postville, on Tues. evening, Feb 16th, 1892, by

Postville Review
Postville, Allamakee Co. Iowa
February 27,1892
Our people were shocked, on Sunday morning, to hear that Henry J.
KLUSS residing near Bethel church, had committed suicide by
shooting, on Saturday evening previous. He sold his farm some
time ago, and afterwards regretted that and tried to but it back,
but could not do so. After this he purchased E. SWENSON's farm,
but was not fully satisfied with the purchase, most of his
neighbors thinking he had paid too much for it. The sale of his
own farm and the purchase of the other seemed to prey on his
mind, and it finally gave way, making it possible for him to take
his own life. The funeral services were held from the Lutheran
church on Tuesday and the remains were deposited in the cemetery
in Postville. His age was about 36 years and he leaves a wife and
6 small children, besides mother and brothers and sisters. [note:

OBITUARIES.
Henrietta WERHAN was born at Duttenstad, Germany, July 20th,
1815. In 1839 she was married to Wm. WERHAN and for 53 years and
6 months she remained unchangeable in all the struggles of life.
She was the mother of 9 children, 6 of whom are living to mourn
with the aged husband the loss of a kind mother and beloved wife.
She died on the 31st day of January having reached the blessed
age of 75 years, 5 months and 11 days. She was a member of the
Lutheran church.
Mr. George COON born Nov. 21st, 1818, in Duchess Co., New York.
Early in life he moved with his father and family to Canada and
subsequently to Ill. In March, 1854, with his wife he came to
Clayton Co., Iowa, and settled near Hardin, where he was living
at the time of his death, Feb. 19th, 1892. When a boy he was
converted and baptized inthe Baptist church, but not having the
privileges of his own church as in the east, he never again
joined any denomination. He became at one time very indifferent
and cold, but never fully relaxed his hold on Christ. For years
prior to his death he lived a consistent christian life. About 2
years ago he had an attack of la grippe from which he
never recovered fully and since which time he has gradually
declined in health, sometimes better and sometimes worse. On last
Friday morning, apparently without any pain, he fell asleep at
the age of 73 yrs., 2 mo. and 28 days. The funeral services were
held fromthe Hardin church. A very large concourse of old freinds
and acquaintances fully attesting the high esteem in which he was
held.
