Lansing has discovered a veritable lead mine and great excitement prevails. Waukon has iron mines and Postville has, or will have a farmers' creamery. We are all happy!

Mr. MACKEY has had quite a severe siege with rheumatism.

Peter ERRICKSON, father of Loui, had his arm broken by a kick from a horse, a few days ago. He is doing well.

Charley HARRIS is at home after a long absence in Wisconsin.

MASONIC OFFICERS. The following officers of Brotherly Love Lodge, No. 204, A.F.&A.M. were installed at a special meeting held at their lodge room on Tuesday evening of last week:

MARRIED.
At the M.E. parsonage on Tuesday, Dec 30, Mr. Wm ROBINSON and Miss Jessie BARRETT, both of Edgewood.

A double wedding, at the home of Rev. R.D. McCormack, Jan. 1, 1891, by Rev. BISSELL, D.D., president of Upper Iowa University; Miss Nettie G. McCORMACK to Mr. Edward W. MADDEN and Miss Florence I. McCORMACK to Mr. George S. REID. Mr. and Mrs. MADDEN will go to Los Angelos, Cal., the last of January, to reside. Mr. and Mrs. REID have already gone to their new home near Lamont, Iowa.

BETHEL NOTES.
Grandpa McWILLIAMS will not only mend his own ways but will try to repair all of our ways in the fourth road district in the spring.

Rev. C.F. SCHELL looks warm and comfortable in his fur coat that our Christmas tree bore for him. His wife sits in a fine rattan rocker that came from the same source.

Bert COOK teaches the West Grove school, Myrtie COOK the Cherry Valley, Miss Mattie WHITE the Lybrand, Miss May JONES the Evergreen and Miss Ollie ORR the Minert.

DIED.
At his home in Postville, Jan 13th, 1891, of apoplexy, Norman J. BEEDY, aged 64 years, 5 months and 5 days. Mr. BEEDY was born in the state of New York, Aug. 8th, 1826, left New York in 1850 and came to Postville in 1865. He leaves four children, one daughter in Beatrice, Neb., one daughter in Wichita, Kan., and a son and daughter here. He was married to Mary E. BARNES in N.Y. in 1850. After her death he was married in 1868 to Lucy HALL, of Sullivan Co., N.Y., who survives him. In July he was taken sick. Since Aug. 1st, he has been unable to leave his home. From the beginning of his sickness he steadily failed until Sept. 26th, when a large abcess was opened, which gave him relief. From this time he improved steadily. He had been for some time considered out of danger. But Dec. 29th he was taken with trouble in his head which resulted in his death.

Died. At his residence, near Postville, Jan. 12th, 1891, of typhoid pneumonia, after an illness of two weeks, Geo. W. HANKS, aged 56 years, three months and four days. G.W. HANKS was born in West Almond, Allegheny Co., New York, Oct 8th, 1834. At the age of four years his father with his family moved to Wayne twp., Crawford county, Pennsylvania, where he lived till the 21st of April, 1859. At the age of seventeen he professed faith in the christian religion, and was baptized and united with the Lake Creek Free Baptist church in Pennsylvania. He was married to M.A. BANISTER, July 3, 1856, moved to Grand Meadow, Clayton Co., Iowa, April 24, 1859.

MARRIED.
At the Catholic church in Clermont, By Rev. Father HACKETT, Jan. 13th, 1891, Mr. Will GARVEY and Miss Nora CAVANAUGH. At the same time and place, Mr. Michael POWERS and Miss Rosa KELLY.

LOCAL ITEMS.
The funeral of Mr. HANKS yesterday was one of the largest ever held in this section. James HANKS arrived from Colorado in time to attend the funeral.

Hon. T.D. WHITE, of National, has purchased Oliver MACKEY's farm for $60 per acre. This is the highest price yet paid for a farm around here.

The fire company attended Mr. BEEDY's funeral in a body in the proper regalia. Mr. BEEDY was fire marshal.

Charley YONKERS comes to the front with another ten lb. boy.

BETHEL BUZZINGS.
Miss Mattie OWEN is quite sick with typhoid fever.
O. WHITE and sons have a portable steam saw mill located near E. READ's house.
