Waukon Building Improvements for 1890:
Waukon is a town of steady, substantial growth. It has never had a "boom" and we hope it never will have one of the speculative kind that, when the fever is over, leaves the patient weaker than at first and must have a season devoted simply to recuperation. Like former years, the one just closing has been one of progress and solid growth for our beautiful, lively, flourishing town. Most of our estimates have been obtained from the owners of the property and the others on good authority:

Postville Review
Postville, Allamakee, Iowa
December 27, 1890

John R. MOTT, who is at home to spend Christmas, spoke at the Methodist church last Sunday evening on the subject in which he is engaged, the work of the Young Men's Christian Association in the colleges.

Miss Marion DAWSON, who has had a severe spell of sickness, is out again.

I will sell my residence in Postville cheap. D.N. TURNER, Hygiene, Colo.

Loui ERRICKSON came in from St. Ansgar to eat Christmas turkey.

John CROSBY has had a run of typhoid fever but is out again.

E. HARDIN, who had gone to Sac City to spend the winter, returned to attend Don's funeral. Both brothers, Dennis and Frank are also here.

Harvey & Stella ROBERTS, Miss Belle PRESCOTT and Prof. E.J. HANCHETT are among the prodigals who have returned for the holidays.

DEATHS.
Died.In Paragould, Ark., Dec 22, 1890, of consumption, Don W. HARDIN, aged 26 years, 5 months and ?days. The remains reached Hardin on Wednesday evening and the funeral was held from the M.E. church on Friday. A large concourse attended the last sad rites and followed the remains to their last resting place in the Postville cemetery.

Died,in Osage City, Kas. December 16th, 1890, of neuralgia of the heart, Mrs. P.L. SMITH aged 75 years, 8 months and 9 days. The deceased was born April 7th, 1814, at Alburgh, Vermont, and moved with her parents to New York in 1827. In the year 1832 she was married, and in 1855 she moved to Iowa, where her husband died in 1874. In 1883, with her family, made her home in Eskridge, Kas. and removed from there to Osage City last April. She had 6 daughters and four sons, all of whom are living and married. Seven of her children were with her at the last. they were as folows: Wesley L. & Mrs. C.B. DRAPER of Osage City; Mrs. H.L. RAND, Albia, Io.; Mrs. C.A. WOODY, Falls City, Nebr.; W.F. , Madison, South Dakota; John B., Steele City, Nebr. and Mrs. C.S. WARNER, Eskridge. Those absent were Mrs. E.S. CADWELL, Maringo, Ill; Mrs. Charles McCLELLAN, Chicago; and P.T. Smith of Postville, Io. She had seen the last of her 10 children happily wedded on last Thursday evening. --Free Press, Osage City, Kas., Dec. 18, 1890.
