The Democratic County Convention met at the
Court House last Saturday. For Clerk of Court there were nine
candidates, Shippey of Lansing, Neil McCaffery of Lafayette, W.
S. Harat of Paint Creek, L. Eells of Makee, A. B. Cook of Post,
Dr. Lewis of Waterloo, Wm. Knackstedt of Makee, Chas. Smith of
French Creek, Herb Townsend of Taylor. Wm. Knackstedt was
nominated for Clerk on the 11th ballot, but not until there were
charges of cheating in the counting, and some of the delegates
getting mad, and Shippey's withdrawing. Henry Dayton was
nominated for County Attorney, E. D. Purdy for Recorder, and
Jerry Lea for Supervisor.
WEDDING
Last Monday evening the 17th inst Mr. Julius Volding and Maude,
second daughter of Judge Hendrick were married at the home of the
bride. A large number of friends, composed largely of young
people, with whom Maude is a great favorite were gathered to
witness the ceremony. The rooms were beautifully decorated with
flowers, the work of the brides class at the High School. Two
little girls, Mabel Dunlevy and Lilian Hays attended the bride
who was tastefully attired in white. The ceremony [my copy ends

MARRIED.
CARPENTER -- KLINKLE. -- At the residence of the bride's father
Jefferson township, by M. F. Sabber (or Sanner), J. P., Mr.
William W. carpenter of Waukon and Miss Ella Klinkle of
Jefferson.
PRATT -- BOLLMAN. -- At Waukon, Iowa, Sept. 19th, 1888, by Rev.
J. D. Gold, Mr. Fred W. Pratt of Waukon and Miss Lucinda Bolman,
of Frankville. We have only time to extend hearty congratulations
this week, and wish them perennial happiness.
LUDLOW TOWNSHIP CAUCUS.
The Republicans of Ludlow township will meet at School House No.
1, FRIDAY EVENING, Sept. 21st, '88 at 7 o'clock, to elect 5
delegates to the Republican County Convention at Waukon on the
22d, and to transact any other business properly before the

MARRIED.
--In Giard, Iowa, on Tuesday, Sept. 25th, 1888, at the residence
of the bride's parents, by Rev. J. GASS, Mr. F.J. KLUSS, of
Postville and Miss Lena MUNDT, of Giard. They go to housekeeping
at once on Sumner street in Postville.
--At Minneapolis, Kansas, Sept 15th, 1888, Mrs. Lucy A. ADAMS of
Clay Center to Mr. George YOUNG, of Republic City, Kas. Her many
friends will be glad to know that she has married a highly
respectable man and wealthy farmer.
--Mr. Fred PRATT, of Waukon and Miss Louisa BOLLMAN of
Frankville, were married Wednesday of last week.
BETHEL BUBBLES.
CLAYTON & EWING have their portable steam saw mill at J.H.
MEIER's sawing out timbers and lumber for a barn.
Mrs. Eva LITTLE is still visiting with friends and relatives.
Mrs. A. BRAINARD and son, R.J.J. started for Chicago the 21st,
where they intend stopping for 2-3- days with W.J.A. BRAINARD;
from there they intend going to Glen Lord, Mich, where Mrs. B.
has two sisters.
George WATERS brought home from our fair two premiums, one for
the best farm team and second best grade two year old stallion
colt weighing 1,400 pounds.
C.B. BACHTELL of Myron had a fine display of poultry; I think
every coop had a premium tag attached.
David SMITH had two coops of poultry on exhibit; each took
premiums.
Mrs. Evan SWENSON and Mrs. C.W. MEIER start this evening for
Sioux City to see the sights and visit Mrs. S's sister, Mrs.
Katie GILSON of that city.
