We understand that drayman SCHULTZ' brother will erect a house just east of A.L. STILES' this spring.

H.J. SCHULTZ, the drayman, has purchased the residence property west of the Methodist church, just south of the old H.A. STOWE property and will improve it greatly. He is already erecting a large barn on the premises.

Henry SCHULTZ made us a brief call this morning.

Mr. Abram HART is now full owner of the Myron mill property, including the lands thereto belonging. The mill is now doing a good business under the management of Mr. NEY, who is a first-class miller. We are not advised as to what Mr. DAVIS will do.

E.H. PATTEE and family left on Wednesday for Watertown. Elmer VanDYKE, who has been studying telegraphy for the past five months at the Burlington depot here, accompanied Mr. PATTEE to Watertown, where he expects soon to have a job as operator. He was careful that the Review should follow him to his Dakota home.

J.M. LISHER was "registered" at the Commercial on Monday.

The old Smithfield mill was destroyed by fire last Saturday night.

D.W. BALDWIN has moved into the [illegible] house on the west side of town.

I will rent my farm for one year or more for cash or share rent, as may be desired. Apply on the premises two and one half miles north of Postville. B. VanVELZER

Work has commenced on the skating rink building and it looks as if the intention was to finish it off for a store building. C.P. DARLING and Ed. EATON are sawing up lumber and tearing up things generally there.

For sale, at a Bargain. I now offer my two story residence and lots, fronting on Lawler street, for sale at a bargain.. The house has been rebuild throughout by myself of the best material, and is well finished, with good cellar, never failing well and cistern. A. KOEVENIG.

The election on Monday passed off quietly and a light vote was polled. The following is the ticket elected, all of them being re-elected, except Jacob MEYER in place of J. NICOLAY, who was not a candidate:
Mayor, Jas. McEWEN
Councilmen, C. THOMA, J. MEYER
Treasurer, W.S. ROBERTS
Recorder, Wm. SHEPHERD.

As prohibition is being enforced around this section of the country the spring electios show a large gain in democratic mayors. J.F. DAYTON was elected in Waukon over Col. SWEWART, & W.H. VALLEAU is again elected in Decorah.

DEATH.
Hon. S.H. KINNE, of Lansing, died last Saturday morning, after an illness of about two weeks. Thus the old settlers, one by one, drop out of sight.

MARRIED.
At the residence of the bride's parents near Postville, March 3rd, 1887, by the Rev. J.W. FERNER, Mr. S. Hart McLEAN to Miss Lavina KERR, of Henderson Prairie. A pleasant company had gathered in response to the fascination of a wedding invitation, of all ages from the child of a year to the gray haired sire of eighty-five winters. At the appointed time the bride appeared, neatly attired in electric blue and taking a position facing the company, with the man of her choice -- was made one in a neat brief ceremony. [a description of the festivities followed] Mr. and Mrs. McLEAN will soon make their home in Michigan on a fruit farm. The best wishes of all go with this worthy couple.

[Transcribers note: A letter from Clara MOTT, to Mr. Israel DODGE, grandfather of Miss MOTT, appears in this paper. It was written from Berlin by Clara, who was in Europe studying. Anyone wanting a copy should contact the Allamakee Co. coordinator by e-mail. Address on index page. It is very lengthly.]
