DIED.
At her home in Grand Meadow twp., Clayton co. March 27th, 1885, Mrs. Anna McLELLAND, aged 82 years. Mrs. Anna McLELLAND, deceased, was born in New York, 1803. She was married to R.J. McLELLAND at her father's residence in Victor, Ontario co. November 3rd, 1822. They moved to Royalton, Niagera county, a place 6 miles east of Loackport, the country being all new and heavily timbered, where they lived 33 years, and had 6 children, 3 of whom are now dead. They moved to Grand Meadow twp, June 6th, 1856 and have lived on the NE 1/4 of section 16, up to the present time. She has been, all her married life, a sincere, professed Christian, doing all she could to make her family happy, and doing good to her neighbors. She was all her life a most industrious worker, until her strength was all gone and she was laid down, not able to speak a word, lay all night entirely still, and was found in bed in the morning dead. The funeral was held from the M.E. church last Sunday afternoon, and the remains were interred in the Postvile cemetery.

LOCAL ITEMS.
Having leased Ed SHEEHY's old stand, I am prepared to furnish warm meals and lunches at all hours. I keep a full supply of cigars, tobaccos and temperance drinks. J.A. HAVIRLAND.

A serious stabbing affray took place at Waukon last Wednesday by which Jas. CAMPBELL was frightfully cut up by Bird RIED. It is uncertain whether or not CAMPBELL will survive. The affray was the result of an old feud, both being engaged in the occupation of well drilling, but operating different machines.

We regret to announce the death at Waukon, of Mrs. Geo. H. BRYANT, the wife of our county treasurer, which occurred last Monday. She is the mother of small children, the youngest is only three weeks old.

We understand the Mrs. Fred EVERT is very sick with a cancer.

Mrs. COE returned from New Mexico last week, where she has been for some time. She has gone to Hardin to live with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. HINMAN, for a time.

OBITUARY. The following notice of Mrs. Hall ELLIS' father is clipped from a western paper:
Hiram OWEN was born Sept. 30, 1808; in the State of New York. He was united in marriage to Lydia GANO in 1829; was converted and united with the Methodist church when about 40 years of age, and remained firm in that belief until his death, on March 12, 1885, aged 76 years, 5 months, and 12 days. He died at the residence of his son-in-law, R.H. WILSON, 5 miles SW of Sac City, which had been his home for the past two years. He seemed to have no disease, but he had always led an active life, full of hard labor, and had passed through many trying scenes and the long, cold winter that has just passed was very trying to his feeble body, and as it drew near spring he failed rapidly, and sank day by day until he died. His funeral was held at his home, conducted by Rev. R. HAYDEN; his text was Job 5:26. His remains were taken to Gilman, Iowa, to be interred by the side of his wife.
