LOCAL ITEMS.
Mrs. E. SHOWEN left on Wednesday morning for an extended visit at
Spring Valley Minn.
Wm. LAWSON of Franklin twp found a pair of twin boys at his
residence last Frday. It was so cold that none of them got away.
All doing well.
A lodge of Knights of Pythias was organized in Postville last
Saturday evening, with 18 members. The following are the officers

FRANKVILLE NEWS.
Mr. Charles EWING and Miss Missouri WEBSTER were married on New
Years day, by H.B. ALLEN, J.P. On the same day Mr. J.H. PATRICK
and Miss Tillie SHERMAN were married by Rev. R.K. PIERCE.
Mr. A. SHAFF is here visiting is sister, Mrs. H.B. ALLEN, whom he
had not seen for 18 years.
Mr. Dewitt Van WEY is home from Dakota to spend the winter.

LOCAL ITEMS.
The residence of E.R.A. BRAINARD caught fire in the roof on
Tuesday but he succeeded in extinguishing it before it got much
headway.
The following officers of Noble Lodge A.O.U.W. (Grand Lodge

J.R. LAUGHLIN shot and killed a large bald headed eagle near his
residence a few days ago. It measured about seven feet from tip
to tip of wings. The national bird is scarce in this section and
it is quite a curiosity.

newly married pair too the 6 o'clock train for Chicago, on their
wedding tour. Mr. CHAMBERS is a produce and stock dealer for
Gilchrist & Co. with headquarters at Luana.

Wilkes WILLIAMS, the son of Judge WILLIAMS, who lost his right
arm a few years ago, had another misfortune last Sunday. A
viscious horse bit the stub of the amputated arm, inflicting a
severe wound and slightly shattering the bone. He is doing well,
however.
R.N. DOUGLASS has purchased the Geo. RATHMAN residence.
WAUKON ITEMS.
GREER & WALKER of this city have recently drilled a well at
Monona to supply Wellman's mill and the railroad water tank. The
well is 360 feet deep.
Hugh DOUGHERTY took a wife in the comely Miss Lizzie PHALEN, of
Postville.
