J.C. TAYLOR and Will HARRIS tok in the Chicago Exposition and
Ill. State Fair last week.
N.A. McNEAL wishes to notify the citizens of Postville that he
has opened a barber shop in the basement of Commercial House.

Will SHEPHERD, Esq. will build this fall on East Green Street,
near H. DRESSERS.
Mrs. ANDERSON has sent her youngest daughter to the Soldier's
Orphan's Home at Davenport.
Our good friends Mr. and Mrs. M.Y. McMASTER celebrated their
"china" wedding on Thursday afternoon and evening.

At the Catholic Church in Postvlle, on Wednesday morning, Oct.
10th, 1883, by the officiating Priest, Mr. Wm. MOLL and Miss
Louisa KOEVENIG, all of Postville.

The gentlemen of the Cong'l church and society will, on Tuesday
eve, Oct 30 give a grand supper without the assistance of the
ladies. the following gentlemen will cook and furnish the

DIED.
On Wednesday, Oct. 17th, 1883, at 10 o'clock a.m. Mrs. Jane E.
SAWYER, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. N.W. LANBACH, of
Osage City, Kansas, after a brief illness of several days. Aged
66 years 6 months and 27 days. Mrs. SAWYER was born March 21st,
1817, in Schuyler, Herkimero county, New York. She was married in
---- at Plainesville, Ohio, to Mr. W.B. SAWYER, who died in the
vicinty of Postville, Iowa in 1875. In July, 1873, she with her
daughters, Candoce E. and Gerturde A., removed to Kansas and have
resided in Osage City up to the time of her death. She leaves six
children to mourn her decease: Mrs. Wesley L. SMITH, Mrs. N.W.
LANBACH & Miss Gertrude A. SAWYER of Osage City; Watson A.
SAWYER, of St. Louis, Mo.; Wallace G. SAWYER & Mrs. G.N.
DAYTON, of Minnesota.
