LOCAL ITEMS.
S.L. HENDERSON and family left for their future home in Bozeman, Montana. He received a government appointment of Commissioner of the National Park.

M.E. church sociable will be held at the residence of Mrs. John MOTT next Thursday afternoon.

Joseph ANDERSON, who has been seriously indisposed for some time and mentally deranged, has been adjudged insane and was taken to the Independence asylum by Sheriff LEITHOLD.

Fresh lake fish recieved every Thursday morning at MINNICK & MASON's meat Market.

Frank ROBERTS is moving into his new residence.

F.S. BURLING has a new sidewalk.

We are to have a bridge across Williams' run, between the church and Mr. MOULTHROP's.

LOCAL ITEMS.
Mrs. LASSEY has a new sidewalk.

Mrs. COYLE and daughter are spending the summer in Wisc.

S.S. POWERS and Ed. DOUGLASS have gone to Dakota to look after their landed estates.

Willie DARLING is clerking in the hardware store of MOTT & McADAM.

We have had alabastine put upon our office walls. Ed. PUTNAM was the man wo done the job.

Mr. Levi HAINES, and old and well known resident of Postville, who has been a great sufferer for a long time, died on Monday and was buried Wednesday afternoon.

Miss Carrie JONES spent last Sabbath in Farmersburg.

Lot owners in the cemetary should straighten up the head stones and otherwise fix up the "city of the dead".

R.A.T. MEYER rejoices in the advent of a daughter of tender age, and Ben. GULIE is similarly blessed by a son.

Mrs. M.O. TAYLOR and children of Fairbury, Neb., are visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. SANDERS.

J.A. CAVIN will give a party at his hall in Frankville next Tuesday evening. Music by Ervin's band.

A musical convention will be held at Waukon may 22nd and continuing for 4 days. G.C. HEMENWAY, R.J. ALEXANDER, A.J. RODGERS, committee.

W.F. and P.W. SMITH hve paid their mother and sister several visits of late.

C.F. COON and wife, of Luana, have returned to their old home in Edgerton, Wis.

OBITUARY.
Levi HAINES was born in New Jersey, on June 5th, 1801. In 1810 with his parents he moved to Champaign county, Ohio. Here he grew to years of maturity, and on May 10, 1828 was married to Miss Abigail RICE. Ten children were given to this union, four of whom survive the father. In 1853 he with his family, moved to Grand Meadow twp, Clayton county, Iowa. For the past eleven years he has been residing in this place. For 20 years he has been a sufferer from rheumatism. It crippled him severely, so that for the past 8 years he has been obliged to use canes or crutches. He had been a powerful man, pssessed of a stong constitution. A faithful, tender wife cared for him through all the years of his decline. On Monday evening May 8th, he breathed his last. On May 10th, the 52nd anniversary of their wedding, the widow laid his remains away in their last resting place.

Mr. H. SWENSON and A.M. LANE left for Dakota last week. Mr. SWENSON going away leaves us without a shoemaker.

Joe GRAY has been painting his picket fence a rich cream color.

John MOIR opens out well in his new confectionery business.

It is with deep regret that we announce the death of J.F. WILLIAMS, which occurred at his home, the Railway House in Prairie du Chien, on the 16th instant.
