LOCAL ITEMS.
Earnest NICHOLS, a son of C.D. NICHOLS, is back from Nebraska.
Having taken out license for draying, I am prepared to do all
work entrusted to me in the draying line promptly. B.S. GULIG.
Wm. ALSIP, the champion brick layer of Waukon, goes to northern
Dakota to ply his vocation.
Mr. HUNT, now of New York, but formerly an old Howard county
acquaintance is the balmy days of New Oregon, is visiting in
town, at the residence of C.E. TUTTLE.
Mr. CLARK, father of E.N. CLARK, was buried on Wednesday.
Mrs. SONNKALB will have a very large auction sale at her
residence in Grand Meadow twp. next Friday the 10th.
Mr. H. DRESSER, together with a partner will build a blacksmith
and machine shop just west of Turner Hall.
The child of Bert SANDERS, who was scalded in a kettle of hot ley
accidentally, a few days ago, died of its injuries. A sad case.
S.J. RUSSELL has sold his property just over the line in Clayton
county, comprising a residence and 26 acres of land to Mrs. J.
KOEVENIG, for $1,500.

Died March 4th, 1882, at 7 o'clock in the morning.
LOCAL ITEMS.
A.A. CANFIELD has returned.
Elmer GREEN is home on a visit.
Frank TAYLOR has added a "dark room" to his photograph
gallery.
Will DARLING, who has been attending the U.I.U. is home on
vacation.
Herbert ANGELL started for Dakota Thursday. He will stay there
all summer.
Elmer COURSON is suffering from a small tumor on his neck.
Rev. C.S. NEWHALL is the happy possessor of a new baby boy. All
doing well.
Mr. Jesse PRESCOTT, of Heron Lake, Minn., brother of our
postmaster, is in town. He is buying horses to ship.

A. SPOO has moved onto his farm and is now, or ought to be happy.
Correction: Frank TAYLOR was elected instead of Ed. DOUGLASS. We
were mis-informed.
O.A. MAKEPEACE has sold his mare, known as "old Huldah"
with her last year's colt for $215.00.

THE REVIEW.
Today we issue No. 1 of volume 10, of the Postville Review. For 9
years the paper has succeeded and starts off for the next yearly
milestone with brighter prospects than ever before.
We start out the new volume with a fine list of paying

Joseph KOEVENIG has dug a mammoth drain to his beer vault, 300
feet long and in the deepest place 121 feet deep. It is a regular
ship canal, so to speak.

LANSING NEWS
- Rev. Jos. Gaston will deliver a temperance sermon at the
Presbyterian church next Sunday evening, the occasion being the
union temperance meeting. Services commence at 7:30
o'clock.
- Mr. J.W. Brown, who has had charge of the construction of the
new mill, has been engaged as foreman for this season, and the
mill firm think they have in him a man thoroughly competent to
run the concern.
- Mrs. T. Brockhausen will entertain the ladies and gentlemen
Wednesday evening, April 5th, from 6 to 8 o'clock, the occasion
being the April missionary tea. A pleasant and enjoyable
time may be anticipated. All are cordially invited.
- Mr. A.B. Clark, who some time ago talked of buying the Rud
blacksmith and wagon shop here, has concluded to remain at
Caledonia. He recently purchased the William West
blacksmith establishment property in that place, and is now
conduction business in his new quarters.
- The old Murphy building that formerly stood just north of Mr.
Bequette's store has been torn away and the premises are being
very much improved in appearance by the erection of a comfortable
dwelling house on the lot. Wm. Murphy is doing the work and
intends to have a snug home one of these days.
