Mr. L.T. CROW sends us from his home in Lake county, Dakota, a sample of wheat raised this year which he says yielded 31 bushels per acre; and some barley which yielded 42 bushels of very fine color. He says oats were injured by rust but corn and potatoes look well. He adds: "This was raised on land that Uncle Sam gives to people for living on it." Call and see the samples.
The latest advice from Sheriff HEWIT indicates that he is steadily improving, and unless a change for the worse is experienced immediately there will be nothing in the way of his recovery. Last Monday the report became current here that he was dead and Saturday and Sunday that result was almost momentarily expected, but he rallied and the crisis sems past so that everybody is encouraged.
Mr. E.N. BAIRD, the lightning king, at the C.M & St.P. depot, has taken a three weeks vacation , in which to recuperate and enjoy himself. Among other places he will visit Appleton, Wis., where his parents reside and will also take in the grand triennial conclave of the Knights Templar, at Chicago, and may, may we think it very probable, that he will visit Chemung and Geneva Lake. Wherever he goes we wish him a pleasant and enjoyable season, and a safe return. Mr. WEBB will manipulate the electricity here during his absence.
