DIED. At Madison, Wis., April 6th, 1879, of hemorrhage of the liver, H.E. HOWE, aged69 years, lacking 19 days. Mr. HOWE settled at Monona about 50 years ago, where he resided until 8 years ago,when he removed to Madison, Wisconsin. Being one of the pioneers in this sectionof northern Iowa he was well known to all the old settlers. He had been in feeblehealth for some time, but was not confined closely to his bed until last Saturdayand on Sunday he passed away. His remains were brought to Monona and deposited inthe Cemetery there on Wednesday. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn hisloss, among the latter, F.A. HOWE, of Waukon, and E.L. HOWE, of Ossian, both wellknown here.

DIED. In Grand Meadow, April 8th, 1879, of paralysis, Peter F. DICKINSON, aged 63[or 83] years.

DIED. At Grand Meadow, April 10th, 1879, of paralysis, Kimble ADAMS. Funeral atthe Luana church, on Sunday, at 10:30 A.M.

C.P. DARLING will follow Mr. BURHANS to Nebraska in a few days also in search ofland we believe. They expected to go together but Mr. DARLING could not get readyas soon as Mr. BURHANS wanted to go.

J.B. SCHMIDT inaugurates the building season by putting up a fine, large wing onthe north side of his store, to be used as a work shop. He will thus have the entirespace of his store room for goods, and he intends to fill it up.

I will sell the Star Corn Planter for $45, on time for the next 30 days, and as cheapas any one for cash. E.J. DAILEY, Luana, Iowa.

We wish pubicly to return our sincere thanks to the citizens of Postvillefor their kind assistance at the fire which occurred on the morning of March 31st,and which consumed our home and place of business. By their efforts much of thestock, furniture & c. was saved. We sincerely hope that none of them may everbe called to see their own homes thus melt down in an hour. Mrs. V. SCHMITZ &family.

DIED. Near Postville, on March 31st, of diphtheria, Carrie E. oldest daughter of Mrs. Maggie B. HAINES, aged 12 years and 3 months.
