DIED. -- At Castalia, Iowa, April 7th, 1874, Darius CRABTREE,
son of Erastus and Mary CRABTREE. Age ten years, 5 months and 25
days, the funeral services held at Castalia, sermon preached by
Rev. R. D. McCORMACK, text,
Matthew 18 Chap. 3 verse.

April 15, 1874.
MARRIED.
At the M.E. Church, in this village, on Thursday evening, the 9th
inst., by Rev. P.E. MILLER; Mr. H.G. CLARK to Miss Ellen J.
WILLIAMS. The nuptials were witnessed by a house full of friends
and neighbors of the "bride" and "groom" who
gathered for the purpose of congratulating them upon their union.
From the church, a large number of invited guests adjourned to
their residence, a new and fine one, which Mr. CLARK had already
prepared and furnished in good style, ready for occupation; and
where a magnificiently spread table awaited their arrival. Here a
general social time was enjoyed; heartily expressed
"good-wills", music and feasting being the order until
nearly twelve o'clock, when the visitors quietly dispersed,
leaving the family, so pleasantly installed in their new home, to
its quiet enjoyment. -- from the Peoples Paper.

The old Brewery at Springfield we hear was burned last Saturday
night. Have not learned the particulars.
There was a small red shawl left at the dressmakeing rooms of
Mrs. J.A. JOHNSON, the owner can have same by calling at her
rooms.
Mr. S.B. FINNEY is putting up the brick walls to his residence
and when completed, will we know, be the finest brick residence
in town.
We neglected to mention a pleasant call from E.M. HANCOCK, of the
Waukon Standard, last week. Call again Ellery, and we will
try and remember it.
For sale, a good house and one and one-eighth of an acre of land
in Postville. E. TOPLIFF.
Brotherly Love Lodge, No. 204, A.F.& A.M. meets at their new
hall on Tuesday evening on or before the full moon in each month.
Members of the craft in good standing are cordially invited to
visit us. Jas. PERRY, W.M.; A.R. PRESCOTT, sec'y.
We are authorized to say that Mrs. BOARDMAN will take boarders at
her residence north of the R.R. track. Mrs. BOARDMAN is prepared
at any time to receive them. This is waht many are in want of.
Also that Miss Gusta BOARDMAN is prepared to instruct all who
want instructions in music, at the same place.
Last evening Mr. J. INMAN of this place had a man by the name of
C. VanKUREN, who runs the saloon opposite Mott's lumber office,
brought before the city authorities for selling whisky to Mr.
INMAN's son. The affair resulted by Mr. VanKUREN being compelled
to "fork over" to the tune of $32.45.

Postville Review

April 22, 1874.
Died.
The wife of Mr. A.A. ALLEN died very suddenly last
Sabbath afternoon. Mrs. ALLEN had complained but a few days, had
not even been confined to her bed, we understand. She took dinner
the day she died, with her family. A while after dinner she lay
down to rest, and fell asleep, after sleeping as Mr. ALLEN
supposed as long as she ought to, he went into her room to wake
her and found her dead. This is indeed a very sad and sudden
blow, to Mr. ALLEN and his family, who have the heart felt
sympathy of the entire community in their affliction.

At the residence of the brides father, on the 8th of
April, 1874, by Rev. S.F. SMITH, Mr. John NELSON, of Cedar
Rapids, Iowa, to Miss Mary SHEPHERD, of Postville.

Mr. Hall ROBERTS and lady are expected home soon.

KELLER's. Dried beef kept constantly on hand. Fresh lake fish
received every Wednesday morning.
Mr. E.D. STILES has moved into Mr. DOW's house north side of
Tilden street.

PRESCOTT & EASTON. secondhand cooking stoves, cheap.
The Lady's sociable of the F.W. Baptist church meet at the
residence of Mrs. J.C. DOW, next Tuesday afternoon.
The best blooded and most stylish horse we have ever seen west of
the Mississippi, is the horse owned by L. GREEN of Monona, the
horse is known as Napoleon, is a beautiful coal black, is 10
years old 16 1/2 hands high, and weighs over 1200 pounds.
Fred KUHLMAN. I manufacture the best of Calf Boots, and my
linings do not consist of "blue jeans". All work and
repairing done to order.
A new remedy has been found for consumption. They kill a cat, and
place the skin while warm, over the chest of the consumptive, and
it is said it draws out the disease. A fresh skin needed every
night.
Married.
At the residence of the Baptist Pastor, by Rev. S.F.
Smith, on the 18th of April 1874, Mr. Robert Stewart to Miss
Fannie Hill, both of Waukon.
Fruit Trees
Jas. Mott has a lot of fine trees buried at his nursery,
for spring planting. Says he intends raising them about the 25th,
so that parties wishing, can be supplied with reliable stock of
the varieties that have stood the test.
Shawl
There was a small red shawl left at the dressmaking
rooms of Mrs. J.A. Johnson, the owner can have same by calling at
her rooms.
Lodge Meeting

J. Dunning, Deceased. Notice To all whom it may concern: You and
each of you are hereby notified to appear at the Court house in
Waukon, County of Allamakee, State of Iowa, on the 2d day of
June, A.D. 1874, at 10 o'clock a.m. to attend the probate of an
instrument of writing purporting to be the last will and
testament of Cordella J. Dunning, late of Franklin Township,
Allamakee county, Iowa, deceased, at which time and place you
will appear and show cause, if any you have, why the same should
not be admitted to probate. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto
set my and and affixed the seal of the Circuit Court, this, the
18 day of March A.D. 1874.... by J.W. Pratt, Clerk Circuit Court.

Thursday, April 23, 1874
Board of Supervisors Meeting April 6th, 1874
On motion, O. S. Conkey, was authorized to make a bill for
keeping Mr. and Mrs. Shaff at the poor house and all expenses
connected therewith, and present the same to James Shaff, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Shaff, and demand payment thereof in behalf of the
County.

April 29, 1874
DIED. -- At Frankville [Winneshiek co], Iowa April 17, Wm.
McLEAN, aged 70 years and 11 months. Father McLEAN was born in
Londonderry, Ireland, in 1777. He made a profession of religion
about seven years ago under the ministry of Rev. B. F. TAYLOR,
and died in christian triumph.
