Records can be accessed at the Iowa County Recorder's Office from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Records that can be obtained at the County Recorder:

  • * Births and Deaths - 1880 to 1920, 1942
        to present
  • * Marriages - 1846 to 1920, 1942 to present
Uncertified copies: $5
  (up from $1)
Certified copies: $15
  • Naturalizations
  • Land records: Lookup land records here!
  • Original homestead deeds
  • City and town lot deeds
  • Cemetery lot deeds
  • Soldier discharge records
  • Other records (see Iowa County Recorder Page )
Sample costs:
land records: $.25 per page
probate packets: $.50 per page

* Vital Records (Births, Marriages, Deaths):
Uncertified copies of vital records can be obtained by anyone and are less expensive, but these may NOT be provided to mail-in requests or by phone. Customers must obtain uncertified copies at the recorder's office IN PERSON. Only certified copies to entitled recipients may be issued through mail-in applicants.

Out of town researchers can contact Netha Meyer, who has volunteered to obtain county records. There is no charge for research except for actual costs such as photo-copies and postage. Though it is not necessary, if you wish to make a donation or become a member of the Iowa County Genealogical Society (ICGS), visit the ICGS Page for more information.

Iowa State Vital Records Information

The public may call the state Health Statistics office at (515) 281-4944 from 7:00 a.m to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for state-observed holidays.

Records that can be obtained at the Iowa Department of Public Health:

  • Single-parent births prior to July 1, 1995
  • Adoptions
  • Any record ordered seal by a court of law
  • Birth, death, and marriage records between the years 1921 to 1941.
