"Our roots run deep in Iowa County"
Chartered Dec. 1, 1992, by the Iowa Genealogical Society
The purpose of ICGS is to identify, record, collect, preserve and share resources concerning Iowa County history and its people.
The ICGS Research Center collection includes:
Volunteers will extract records at the Iowa County Courthouse in Marengo including marriage licenses issued since 1847, deed records, births and deaths from 1880, probates, naturalizations etc. If you request research, please be specific in what you arelooking for, so that time is not wasted in searching for something you already have. Please give surname and given name if possible, time period in Iowa County, location (town or township if known). and what information you are wanting. At present we do no charge for research, but expect reimbursement of copying costs. Donations are always welcome. Our researchers are volunteers who try their best to accommodate requests as soon as possible. Our Society publishes a quarterly Newsletter and we like to publish names of those wishing research and for whom they are searching. We keep a cross referenced file and can then connect people doing research on the same family. Upon request we will respect wishes of those who do not want their names to be published.
The society also has many photographs of area landmarks, people, organizations, events, towns and buildings. The Research Center also has computer access for Family Tree Maker, e-mail, and a scanner.
We need more: Family histories, genealogy records, microfilm, town histories, oral histories, pedigree charts, manuscripts, diaries, reference books, published collections, old phone books, plat books, maps, photographs, obituaries, wedding write-ups, church histories, cemetery information and historical accounts.
Anyone with an interest in genealogical or historical research, and above all, anyone pursuing ancestors in Iowa County, Iowa, may become a member and enjoy the benefits of ICGS membership.
