September 10,1874 Pioneer

A boy.-The grasshopper raid does not seem to lessen immigration in this vicinity.  Only yesterday we heard of a small boy making his appearance at the home of Mr. W. C. Drake.

September 24,1874 Pioneer

Happy.  If any one wants to see condensed happiness let him observe for a moment the facial muscles belonging to J.H. Aldrich, whose countenance so, exactly fac similie and illuminated watermelon that you cannot tell the difference until you find the seed.  He seems to be swimming in a sea of molasses and all because a little 7 1/2 pound girl of the female persuasion insists upon calling him papa.  Smile on Harry, “A good beginning is a thing half done.”

Latter and better-Tis a well known fact that women never like to be outdone, and on Tuesday, November 3, the wife of Mr. O. Waterman presented him with a nice baby boy who kicked the beam at 12 1/4 pounds.  Well done.  Mr. W. is just about the happiest man in the part of Iowa.

November 19,1874 Pioneer

Its a girl!  A nice girl weighing nine and a half pounds put in an appearance at the house of Mr. E. H. Barnes last Tuesday.   He, the happy father thinks it is the nicest girl in the county.  We acknowledge the receipt  of a splendid cigar in honor of this little miss, and join with others in wishing success to the Heaven lent treasure.  May her life prove as fragrant and lovely as the wild rose that blooms on the prairie.

November 26,1874 Pioneer

Early Sunday morning last, a little ten pound boy came to Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Bennett and the happy parents gladly took the little soldier to keep till he is of age.  Judging from the rapid increase of the masculine gender we apprehend a war is approaching. (Perhaps between the Grangers and the Middleman)

December 3,1874 Pioneer

Married on Sunday evening November 28,1874, by Rev. H. Carroll, in the home of W.P. Evans, Mr. James F. Wilkinson and Miss Lizzie Smith.
The Pioneer sincerely wishes the happy couple all the joys of wedded bliss.  May your lives prove one perpetual summer of felicity, and your pathway be strewn with ever blooming roses-without the thorns.   May you ascend the hill of life amid bright flowers and your descent be crowned with the knowledge that the ties which now bind you together have grown stronger, and that a long and happy life time has been well and useful spent.  Jim take gentle Lizzie and cherish her, for you have won a treasure.
