The below was sent to me by Sheri Cox and is information on the NELSON-CASE- THOMPSON  family.  In it you will find some notes emailed to her explaining the family tree.

 

I I'm the oldest granddaughter of George W. Nelson. They had 4 children. Perry, Myron, Faye[a son] and my Mother Daisy Addie Nelson Schnider-Wunder. Mom & Dad had 8 children. Mom passed away on Aug 31, 2003. My parents are buried in Lone tree Cemetery at Everly, IA. Faye passed away as a baby, Perry & Myron, we are not sure when & where they died. They did not keep in touch with my Mom. I have an idea that it was no loss. There had been some bad feelings many years ago. We kids were not privy to. (Mavis Petersen-Applegate)

Daniel B. Nelson was born 10 July 1874, IA, never married, lived in Sac County, IA all his life

The parenthesis information is where they lived after marriage.

In 1860 Daniel B. Nelson and his family lived in Troy Township, which is in the very northeast corner of Dane County, NE of Sun Prairie. At this time they had Mary Jane, Henry, Sophia and Harriet. By 1870 they were in Jackson Township, Sac County, Iowa and Isabelle and Leona (Rosa) were now born. In 1880 they were still in Iowa and Geo. W. and Daniel B. were born by this time.

Daniel B. Nelson Sr. was in the Civil War (note the space in years between Jormey A. and Isabelle). Daniel was a Private with Co. B, 16th Regiment Infantry, from York enlisted 14 Oct 1861, transferred to Co. A. Vet, absent sick at muster out of Regt. (In Nov. 1862 Co's B, D, F, etc. consolidated with CO's A, C, E)

Gem Nelson died 2 April 1919, Sibley, Iowa

NOTE: Jormey may be John(ny) if his grandfather really is John Nelson.

 

Jed R. Nelson

Services for Jed Ralph Nelson, 73, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Sunrise Chapel at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Mortuary, Culver City. He died on Sunday.

Mr. Nelson, 2545, Cotner Ave., West Los Angeles, was born in Early, Iowa, and had lived in the Greater Santa Monica Bay Area for 16 years. He was a member of the Broken Column Lodge, F & AM, Sibley, Iowa.

He is survived by a son, Robert J., Texas; two daughters, Alice Cox, Santa Monica, Helen Cousins, San Jose; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Frances Nelson, 78, died unexpectedly September 29 at the Pipestone County Hospital.

Funeral services are pending at the Walton Funeral Home at Sibley, Iowa.

Among the survivors is a daughter, Alice, Mrs. Clarence Cox, Pipestone.

- Reverend Edgar Lewis Case -

Reverend Edgar Lewis Case was born November 4, 1861 at Lansing, Almakee County, Iowa and died on Sunday, September 27, 1929 at Batesland, S.D.

At the age of 1 year, he moved with his parents to Minnesota and lived there until he was 12 years old, them moved to Ida Grove, Iowa, where he lived until manhood. He was married on March 8, 1883 to Miss Isabelle Nelson of Sac City, Iowa. To this union was born ten children, two of whom died in infancy and one son who died in manhood.

He leaves his wife and seven children, also one sister at Norfolk, and one brother at Belden, Missouri. They are Herman Case, Nampa, Idah; Eve McNeff, Fullerton, Nebraska; Myrtle Boyer, Bayard, Nebraska; Martha Lorenz, Gordon, Nebraska; Christena Bennett, Bayard, Nebraska; Esther Schoenholz, Batesland, and one son, Wilbur Case, who is still at home. He also leaves 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was converted on Christmas Eve in 1885 in the Friends Church at Ida Grove, Iowa and started his ministry for the Friends church in 1887, preaching for them until he moved to Nebraska. In 1902, he started preaching for Platte River Confederated Evangelical Church of which he was a member until death.

The funeral was held at the Methodist Church in Gordon at 2 o’clock on Tuesday with Reverend Peterson of Hooper, Nebraska in charge.

-Mrs. E.L. Case-

Isabella Nelson was born June 5, 1866 at Sac City, Iowa and passed away November 30, 1942 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julius Lorenz at Angora, Nebraska.

She was one of a family of eight children. On March 8, 1883, she married Reverend E.L. Case and to his union ten children were born.

Mrs. Case is preceded in death by two daughters, Rosa May, January 9, 1896 and Mary Violet, October 1, 1901; one son, Fred L. Case, November 24, 1918; and by her husband who passed away September 28, 1929.

She is survived by five daughters: Eva McNeff, Fullteron, Nebraska; Myrtie Boyer, Bayard, Nebraska; Martha Lorenz, Angora, Nebraska; Christina Bennett, Sidney, Nebraska; two sons, Herman Case, Nampa, Idaho; and Wilber Case, Martin, South Dakota; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Gates Funeral Home, Gordon and burial will be in the Gordon Cemetery.

Family of John Samuel Thompson

 

John Samuel Thompson was born 20 Feb 1851 in the State of Illinois and died 15 Aug 1923 at Madison, Lake County, South Dakota. He was the son of (Not Verified for sure) Samuel Thompson, Jr. and Nancy Davenport. On 27 Sept 1876 he married Sarah Sophia Nelson at Sac City, Sac County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Daniel B. Nelson and Margaret B. House. Sarah was born 27 Sept. 1855 at Sullivan County, New York and died 29 Nov 1940 at Madison, Lake County, South Dakota.

To John Samuel Thompson and Sarah Sophia Nelson the following 7 children were born.

1. Alda Alice Thompson, born 6 July 1877 at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa. She died on 21 Oct 1877 at Ida Grove and was 
   buried at Ida Grove, Iowa.

2. Minnie Octavia Thompson, born 6 Oct 1879 at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa. She died in 1946 at Calgary Alberta,
   Canada.

3. Franklin Garfield Thompson, born 2 Nov 1880 at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa. Hedied 15 June 1963 in the State of 
   Washington.

4. Myrtle B.Evalena Thompson, born 26 May 1883 at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa. She died 1 April 1921 at Madison, Lake
   County, Iowa and was buried 3 April 1921 at Graceland Cemetery, Madison, Lake County, Iowa.

5. Robert Burns (Burnsie) Thompson, born 8 Sept 1885 at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa and died May 1892 at Ida Grove, Ida
   County, Iowa and is buried in Ida Grove, Iowa.

6. Susan (Susie) Asenath Thompson, born 22 June 1890 at Sac City, Iowa and died

8 Jan 1979 at Madison, Lake County, South Dakota. She was buried 13 Jan 1979 at Graceland Cemetery, Madison, Lake
  County, South Dakota.

7. John Leonard Thompson, born 26 May 1896 at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa and died 2 March 1981 at San Diego,
   California. He was cremated and his ashes scattered per his request at King City, Gentry County, Missouri.

 

Research Information I have found on John Samuel Thompson.

John Samuel was a full blooded Scot. The information obtained on him and his children was gotten from his daughter Susie Asenath, Thompson by John Leonard Thompson's daughter Ventura Thompson Evans at her Aunt Susie's home in Madison, South Dakota. Susie said John Samuel's father was born in the 1700's in Scotland. I do not find that as being accurate due to difference in age times..

I again found him on the 1880 U. S. Census at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa District 137 and it listed him as 29 years of age, born in Illinois and Father born in Scotland and Mother born in Pennsylvania, Wife Sarah S. age 24, born in New York and parents born in New York. and daughter Minnie age 1 born in Iowa. His occupation was listed as a Stonemason.

I found the family on the 1900 U. S. Census at Blaine, Ida County, Iowa with the following family members living in the home.

John (self) age 49 born Illinois, both mother and father born in Scotland; Sarah S. (wife) age 44 born in New York, both parents born New York; Franklin (son) age 19 born Iowa; Myrtle (dau) age 17 born Iowa; Susie (dau) age 9 born Iowa; and John L. (son) age 4 born Iowa.

They were found on the 1910 census of Madison, Lake, South Dakota, District 269. Living in the home was John S. (self) age 59, born Illinois, father born Scotland ?, Mother born Illinois; Sophia S. (wife) age 55, born New York, parents both born New York; Susie A. (dau) age 20, born Iowa; Leonard J. (son) age 13 born Iowa.

I found him on the 1920 Federal Census in which his information was recorded. The following family members was living in the home at this time. John S. (self) age 67 born New York, both parents born in Scotland; Susie S. (wife) age 63, born New York, both parents born New York; Susie (dau) age 29 born Iowa; Also there was a August Boeck M, age 75, Widower born Germany, speaks German. He was a Contractor and a member of the City Council. They lived in Madison, Lake County, South Dakota and this was on Image 18 of 26 of the Census records.

HUSB - John Samuel THOMPSON is listed in the 1917 Madison, South Dakota phone directory at 619 1st Street SE phone number 3687.

DEATH: The death certificate number is 87370, Lake County, South Dakota, Date of Death 08-15-1923.

 

John Samuel Thompson born Feb. 20,1851 in Illinois, died Nov. 29,1940 in Madison, SD. He married Sarah Sophia Nelson, Sept. 27,1876 in Ida Grove, IOwa. She was born Sep. 27,1855 in NY and died Aug. 15,1923. They had a son, John Leonard Thompson born May 27,1896 in Ida Grove.

John Samuels parents were Samuel Thompson born April 18,1810 in Fairfield Co., Ohio and his wife was Nancy Davenport, born April 11,1808. Sarah Nelson's parents were Daniel Boone Nelson and Margaret House.

 

The following Obitutary was printed in the Madison, Lake County, South Dakota on 16 August 1923

JOHN S. THOMPSON DIED LAST NIGHT

Was Engaged in Cement Business here since 1908 - Taken Ill last Saturday.

John S. Thompson, 72 years old of the Thompson Cement Company passed away at 5 O'clock yesterday evening at his home near the North City limits. Tollowing an attack of serious illness with which he was stricken last Saturday. Mr. Thompson had been in failing health for several months, but up to a short time ago he was able to be up and carry on his business.

John Samuel Thompson was born in Illinois on Feb. 20, 1851. When still a small boy, he moved with his parents to Iowa. On Sept 27, 1876, Mr. Thompson married Miss Sarah Sophia Nelson in Sac City, IA. Later they moved to Ida Grove, IA., where they made their home until the spring of 1901, when they moved to Egan. Seven years later the family moved to Madison and Mr. Thompson became engaged in the cement business which he carried on until his poor health necessitated his retiring.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his widow and four children. They are Mrs. Herbert Gaily, of Alberta, Canada; Frank of Sumner, Wash., Leonard, who resides in South America, and Susie, who has been living in Madison with her parents.

The funeral will be held at the M. E. Church Friday Morning at 10:00 O'Clock and burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

She than was married to Herbert Gailey in 1903 at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa. He was born 10 March 1869 in Missouri and died 10 Nov 1955 at Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

    following 5 children were born to Cliff Gailey and Anne Trefanenko.

   Dakota. The following 5 children were born too this marriage.

2. Roy W. Thompson, born 1905 at Madison, Lake County, South Dakota. He married Unknown Spouse. They had the following
   child born of this marriage.

(wife) age 25 born South Dakota, both parents born in Wisconsin; Lyle K. (son) age 6 born South Dakota; Roy W. (son) age 5 born South Dakota.

Found on the 1920 Federal Census of Madison, Lake County, South Dakota.

Found on the 1930 Federal Census of Trent, Moody County, South Dakota.

4. Myrtle B. Evalena Thompson, married Harry L. Walker on 7 May 1901 at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa. Harry was born in
   1877 in South Dakota. To them were Born the following 3 children.

1. Rowe Walker born 12 Feb 1904 in Iowa and died 13 Nov 1980 at San Diego. CA.

2. Pearl Walker, born 1909 at Winfred, Lake County, South Dakota.

3. Willis Walker, born 1920 at Winfred, Lake County, South Dakota.

Found on the 1920 Census of Winfred, Lake County, South Dakota.

6. Susan (Susie) Asenath Thompson, married Mont Ray Vickere on 11 June 1940. He was born 1879 in Minnesota and died 25
    Oct 1951 at Madison, Lake County, South Dakota and is buried at Graceland Cemetery, Madison, Lake County, South
    Dakota. There are no children of this marriage.

 

I have the following information on Susan Asenath Thompson

1930 Federal Census has her and her mother living in Beadle, South Dakota and Susie was a Methodist Preacher there.

7. John Leonard Thompson, married (1st) Addie Naomi Reavis on 17 June 1914 at Grinnell, Pawshiek County, Iowa. They
    were later divorced. Addie was born 13 Aug 1892 at Grinnell, Pawshiek County, Iowa and died 22 Oct 1999 at the age
    of 107 at Grinnell Pawshiek County, Iowa. To them were born the following 4 children.

1. Jesse Floyd Thompson Pierce, born 7 April 1915 and died 12 Nov 1988 at Gilman,Marshall County, Iowa. He married
   Shirley Arlene Lineweaver on 5 May 1943 At Grinnell, Pawshiek County, Iowa. Shirley was born about 1915 and died
   18,July 1960 at Grinnell, Pawshiek County, Iowa. To them were born the following 6 children.

1. Phyllis Jean Pierce born unknown date and married Larry Raymond McKeag atan unknown date. The following two
   daughters were born to them. Gina Marie McKeag and Jolene Denise McKeag.

Jesse Floyd Thompson Pierce was also married to a Constance Ione Melde. No Known dates was found on this.

   She was born on 22 Jan 1930 at Malcolm, Iowa and died Sept. 1990 at Pittsburg, Kansas. To them the following 10
    children Were born.

3. Della Mae Thompson Pierce unknown birth dates and last I knew she was still living. She married Elmer Ginn Graham at
    unknown date. He was born on 10 Apr 1908 in Iowa and died 28 March 1976 at Buckley, Pierce County, Washington. They
    had the following daughter born to them. Joyce Ann Graham unknown birth.

4. Edith Pauline Thompson Pierce, born about 1919, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and died 6 Dec 2002 at Killduff, Iowa and
   buried 10 Dec 2002 at Our Silent City Cemetery, Killduff, Iowa. On unknown date she married (1) Lloyd Winchell who
   Was Born about 1915. To this marriage was born the following 4 children .

1. Ralph Leonard Winchell born unknown date and married Jerry Bernice Bloodworth. To them were born the following two
    children. Guy Gregory Winchell and Linda Rae Winchell.

2. Richard Robert Winchell, born unknown date married Patricia Rose Ulrey.To them were born the following 2 children.
   Robert Emery Winchell and Deborah Lynn Winchell.

3. Dorothy Mae Winchell born unknown date married Carroll Lee Weyers. To them were born the following three
   children.Paul Eugene Weyers, Jackqualine Faye Weyers, and Carolyn Loree Weyers.

4. Marjorie Loree Winchell unknown birth dates and married to Larry LeroyThomas. To them were born one daughter and one
   son.

Edith Pauline than married (2) Ellis (Stub) Claussen. He was born unknown date And died 1998 at Killduff, Iowa. To them were born the following four children.

The following information is on Edith Pauline Thompson Pierce

Lives in Kilduff, Iowa

Pauline worked for Midwest Manufacturing. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Killduff, Iowa and was a former president of Killduff Grange. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble and upholstery projects. She had 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren at her death.

John Leonard Thompson was than married a 2nd time to Blanche Perkins 24 Oct 1922 at

Sedan, Chautauqua County, Kansas. This marriage ended in divorce approximately 1948

In Gentry County, Missouri. Blanche was born 18 Dec 1903 at Butterfield, Purdy County, Missouri and died 12 May 1952 at St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri of Colon Cancer. She is buried at the King City, Missouri Cemetery, Gentry County, MO

2. Beatrice Lea Thompson born 1 March 1926 at Purdy, Barry County, Missouri and still living. On unknown date she
   married (1) James Stafford who died 1953 at Kansas City, Jackson County, MO. To this marriage was born two children.

1. Roger Stafford and 2. Stanley Stafford She than married (2) Robert Williams at unknown date. This marriage ended in
    Divorce. To this marriage was born one son.

1. Robert Williams, Junior born about 1960 at Kansas City, Jackson County, MO She than married (3) John Ackles at
   unknown date. He was born 8 Jan 1923 in Missouri and died April 1987 at Odessa, Lafayette County, Missouri.She than
    married (4) Leonard T. Hawley on 7 March 1992 at Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. This marriage ended in
    divorce.

3. Donald Dean Thompson born 15 May 1927 at Independence, Jackson County, Missouri. He died on 7 November 2001 at St.
    Joseph, Buchanan County, MO.In 1948 at St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO he married (1) Ruby Fay Reeves. That
    marriage ended in divorce. To this union was born 2 children.
