First laid out in 1877, it now contains Baptist, Methodist Episcopal, Presbyterian, Catholic, German Methodist, Lutheran, and Episcopal churches, a graded school, 3 banks, 2 flouring mills, one operated by steam, the other by water-power, a new court house, the usual number of professional men, special and general stores, blacksmith shops, etc., for a place of its size, and 2 weekly newspapers, the Maple Valley Era (Republican) and the Ida County Pioneer (Republican).
