Dennis Cain

Dennis Cain, a farmer of Blaine Township, Ida County was born in Monmouth County, New Jersey December 1844 and died 7 June 1912, Ida County, IA.  He was the son of William and Mary (Noon) Cain, natives of Roscommon county, Ireland.  His parents were married in Ireland and then immigrated to America, locating in New Jersey.  In 1856 they had a farm near Libertyville, Lake county, Illinois.  His mother died there in 1889.  William and Mary Noon Cain were the parents of nine children:

Dennis was raised in New Jersey and moved to Lake county, IL at the age of 12.  In 1861 he began farming in Whiteside county, IL and then three years later enlisted in Company A, 12th Illinois Cavalry and served in the Western Army.  He was honorably discharged on 18 June 1886.  In 1876 he came to Ida County and purchased 120 acres in Blaine township.  He was married in Whiteside, IL in 1871 to Anna Scott a native of that county.  She was the daughter of Asa and Elizabeth Taylor both born in Ohio.  Asa died in May 1883 and Elizabeth died 10 months later.  Anna was born 21 Nov 1851 and died 22 April 1922 in Ida County, IA.
