   Albert Ambrose Moran

This info was submitted by Jinx Engstrom

I am the granddaughter of Albert Ambrose Moran who came with his brother Edgar, on the orphan trains from NYFH to Wayne township, Mitchell co Iowa. His adoptive parents were James and Anna Moran. Albert was born ca 1883 (or so he was told). A child was born at NYFH on the day he considered his birthday who was referred to as baby boy Powers so that may be his birth surname. We are guessing he came to Staceyville, IA as that is the closest stop listed on the official orphan train riders site.

I have the name of another family who adopted two kids from the same orphan train. The boy in that family was the same age as my grandfather. When sister Theresa Vincent sent a letter to my grandfather she inquired about Howard McTigue who is on the very next farm in the Iowa census.

This is a letter about my grandfather, Albert Ambrose Moran and Howard McTigue sent to my grandfather in 1905 (he was 22) by Sister Theresa Vincent. It does not give any helpful information except to confirm they came from the New York Foundling Home. I know from the census that they came to Iowa. I have a copy of the census from Wayne township, Mitchell county, Iowa showing them both living there.

Here is a transcript and the original which is in the handwriting of Sister Teresa Vincent. It was a two page letter [page 1 - page 2]

Dec. 14, 1905 198 East 58th St New York

Dear Sir,

In reply to your letter, I must say that you were placed under our care when only eight days old; and since that time no inquiry has ever been made concerning you, which I think is a proof that you had no relatives. Now do not let this worry you, many children are left without their parents. Will you send me Howard McTighe's address, he wrote I think two years and his letter was never answered. I must write and will be grateful for the address. Any time you care to write we will be happy to write to you. Be faithful to your religious duties and God will bless you.

Wishing you all the joys of a Happy Xmas and a most successful New Year, I am, Sincerely Yours,

Sister Teresa Vincent
