Of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors

 

Board met at the Auditor’s office in Dakota City on June 1st

 

Moved by Stephens that N. R. Jones be appointed agent to receive $2,088 indemnity fund belonging to this county, deposited with state treasurer April 17, 1885. 

Carried.

 

Schleicher, committee on bridge petitioned for on township line between Delana and Wacousta, reported in favor of building a 32 foot pile bridge.  Moved by Schleicher that an appropriation be made for the same. 

Carried.

 

June 2nd

The Treasurer was directed to pay to the state the following amounts due the several funds:

 

$513.34; insane 

$19.71; blind 

$4.42; deaf and dumb  

$8.36; feeble minded

 

Forster moved that the following highway be established:  Commencing 80 rods east of NE corner section 16, Wacousta Township, thence north 80 rods, thence east 320 rods, thence south 80 rods and intersect Lott’s Creek and west fork road, and that so

much of said creek and road be vacated as is necessary. 

Carried.

 

The Auditor was directed to redeem the NE ¼ of SE ¼ section 9, town 93, range 28, from tax sale of 1884 and subsequent taxes.

 

Petition for vacation of Figi road in Vernon Township was denied.

 

Moved that the Pocahontas and Humboldt County line road be established commencing at SW corner section 31, town 91, range 30, thence north on County line to depot grounds  at Gilmore city, a point 11.65 lengths  north of E ¼ post of section 1, 91-31. 

Carried.

 

Moved by Schleicher that the 60 acres of land lying west of W. J. Smith’s residence in Dakota City be put on market at $30 per acre. 

Not carried.

 

N. R. Jones was directed to pay Fort Dodge and Ridgeley Railroad Company $2,088.86 as indemnity swamp land fund.

 

Stephens moved that the bid of D. G. Pinney be accepted for the building of a bridge on east line of section 25 in Wacousta, and one on section 14 in Vernon. 

Carried.

 

The following road was declared vacated, as petition by W. L. Lyon:  Beginning at quarter stake on west side section 14, in Vernon Township, thence east to center of section, thence south 80 rods, thence east 320 rods.

 

Stephens moved that J. S. Fletcher be allowed $25 per month for Clerk of the Courts, in addition to fees of his office. 

Carried.

 

Foster moved that the committee on Poor Farm who have purchased two buildings for farm, be further directed to locate said buildings on block 71, and fitted up as they deem necessary. 

 

To tile drain land on section 6, township 91, north of range 28, west, now owned by county, and to have part of land broke up. 

Carried.

 

June 4th

 

Board examined Treasurer’s accounts and found all correct.  Cash on hand, $18,747.05.

 

June 5th, 1885

 

Moved and carried that the time for the payment of damages on Eell’s road, east of Livermore be limited to next November 1st.

 

Board continued equalization of assessment.

Foster moved that the following changes be made on the assessments for 1885:

Bills were allowed as per schedule of claims.

 

Snook moved that the following persons be appointed a committee without compensation in their townships to carry out provisions of chapter 178 laws of 20th G. A. R., relative to the burial of honorably discharged soldiers and marines who may die in this county without having the means to defray funeral expenses:
