FREDERICKSBURG - Glen C. Zabel, 69, Fredericksburg, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, MN of lymphoma.

Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church /Richfield, rural Sumner with Pastor Milton D. Johnson officiating. Music was provided by Eva Mae Niewoehner as organist. Hymn selections included: "Amazing Grace", "Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley" and "The Old Rugged Cross".

Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with military rites conducted by Fredericksburg AMVETS Post 90. Casket bearers were Travis Gruenberg, Trent Zabel, Eric Gruenberg, Jamie Zabel, Tim Zabel and Kayla Zabel. Honorary casket bearers were Jason Gruenberg, Kendra Zabel, Brianna Zabel, Morgan Zabel, Nick Zabel and Kristina Soennichsen.

Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22 at Chenoweth and Son Funeral Home, Fredericksburg and also one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Glen was born April 9, 1933 in Chickasaw County, the son of William and Stena (Ohlendorf) Zabel. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56. He married Marcella Gaede cn Aug. 12, 1956 in Sumner. He farmed for 25 years and worked at AMPI, retiring in 1995. After retirement Glen worked with Merriam's Midway Shows.

Survivors include his wife, Marcella; a daughter, Debra (Larry) Gruenberg, Sumner; three sons, Russell (Lori), Northfield, MN, Daniel (Pamela), Fredericksburg, Gregory (Deborah), Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; one exchange granddaughter; one brother, Paul (Virginia) Zabel, Cedar Rapids; one sister, Esther Homeister, Waverly and a sister-in-law, Rose Zabel, Sumner.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Alfred, Wilbert and Elmer, in infancy; three sisters, Frieda Kottke, Elsie Homeister and Dorothy Miller and one grandson, Brandon Zabel.
