NEW HAMPTON - Wilfred Patrick Wanderscheid, 90, New Hampton, died Monday, June 10, 2002 at the New Hampton Care Center of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt and Rev. Marvin Salz as con-celebrants. The pall was placed on the casket by his five children. The lector was Paul Schwickerath. Offertory gifts were presented by granddaughters, Barb Martini and Diane Shileny. Music for the service was provided by Ann Bennett as organist and the St. Mary's Choir.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton with Jim Forkenbrock, Bill Martini, Roger Balk, Dennis Balk, Luke Porter and Adam Balk as pallbearers. The New Hampton Knights of Columbus #1897 were the honorary pallbearers.

Visitation was from 3-8p&m. Wednesday, June 12 at ugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton, with a 4 p.m. combined Rosary Society and Knights of Columbus Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service.

Wilfred was born on April 19, 1912 in Lawler, the son of John and Anna (Schwindinger) Wanderscheid. He attended school in Lawler and the Columbia Academy in Dubuque. On Sept. 1, 1938 he married Cecelia Leibold at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton. Following their marriage, the couple farmed three miles east of Lawler. At this same time Wilfred was deputy assessor in the New Hampton and Lawler area. In 1959 the couple moved to New Hampton ana Wilfred earned his real estate license. He was an inheritance tax assessor for the county from the early 1960's until 1999. He had been the school board secretary for 18 years, a member of Bremer, Butler and Chickasaw Board of Realtors where he was a former president, a member of the Accredited Land Brokers, Accredited Land Consultants, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a former member of St. Mary's Church Council and chairman of the New Hampton Care Center Review Committee of the New Hampton Care Center. It was for that position he received the Advocacy Award from Gov. Terry Branstad for his involvement. Wilfred was a former president of the New Hampton Rotary Club and was president when Pleasant Manor was built. Wilfred was very devoted to his wife and family.

Survivors include two sons, Martin (Mary) Wanderscheid, Waverly and John (Alice) Wanderscheid, New Hampton; three daughters, Catherine (James) Balk, Wau-coma, Carol (Patrick) Byrnes, Waterloo and Jane (Bradd) Porter, Garnavillo; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one brother, Joseph Wanderscheid, New Hampton.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Cecelia, in 2000; one sister, Margaret Wanderscheid; four brothers, George, Martin, Louis and Elmer Wanderscheid; a son-in-law, Floyd Ehler and a daughter-in-law, Rita Wanderscheid.
