Shane, Howard E. 1915 - 2002

Howard Emery Shane, 87, of Riceville, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 2, 2002, at the Riceville Community Rest Home in Riceville, Iowa.

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Linn’s Funeral Homes, Iowa Falls, Iowa, Chapel, with Rev. Robert Orr officiating. Burial followed at the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls.

Howard Emery Shane was born July 8, 1915, at Lake Wilson, Minn., the son of Oliver and Inez Harriet (Payne) Shane. He attended the Siloam Springs School in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

He was a truck driver and carpenter, retiring in 1974. In 1942 he was married to Ethel Bonin; they were later divorced.

He served with the United States Army from January 31, 1944 until February 7,1946 serving in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaigns.

On November 4, 1981, he was united in marriage to Gertrude W. Nelson at Progreso, Mex.

Howard is survived by his wife, Gertrude Nelson of Riceville, Iowa; two sons, Darrel Dean Shane of Walhalla, S.C., and Rev. Howard Oliver Shane and wife Janice of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three step-children, Nita Albertson and husband Ronald of Calmar, Iowa, Marlene Berg and husband Roger of Decorah, Iowa, and Curtis Nelson of Lime Springs, Iowa; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Mae Simcox of Ankeny, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Inez Shane; and two brothers, Earl and Marion Shane.
