NEW HAMPTON - Virgil Schwickerath, 79, New Hampton, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002 at his home of cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 at Holy Family Parish - St. Mary's Center, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt celebrating the mass. The pall was placed on the casket by his wife and four children. Larry Throndson and Ray Klenske served as lectors The offertory gifts were presented by granddaughters: Jessifca Schwickerath, Sandi LaV^lle, Trista Humpal and Emily Meyer. Eucharistic ministers were Pat Schwickerath and Sr. Lucia Schwickerath O.S.B.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery with grandsons: Todd Schwickerath, Toby Schwickerath, Josh Schwickerath, Chad Humpal, Justin Humpal, Nick Humpal, Mike Humpal, Chad Steinlage and Wade Steinlage as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters: Sandi Lavelle, Jenni Bearman, Kayla Schwickerath, Jessica Schwickerath, Trista Humpal, Kim Humpal, Emily Meyer, Lyndsey Manderfield, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus.

Visitation was 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10 at Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton where there was a 4 p.m. combined Catholic Order of Forester, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary, a 6 p.m. Scripture Service and a 6:30 p.m. Video Memorial Tribute. Further visitation was from 8-10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 at the funeral home.

Virgil was born June 8, 1923 on his parents’ farm near North Washington, the, son of Herman and Katie DockendorF Schwickerath. He initially attended school at St. Mary's, North Washington and completed his education at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Lawler when his parents moved to a farm near there. On June 25, 1946 h e married Delores (Dolly) Schueller at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton. The couple farmed near North Washington and north of New Hampton. They moved into New Hampton in 1972 Virgil drove truck for the former Iowa Parcel Co and then worked as an electrician for New Hampton Electric, retiring in 1985. He then drove for Zip’s Truck and Equipment Company until August of this year. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, the Catholic Order of Foresters and a 50+ year member of the Knights of Columbus. Virgil enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in his free time. He had many collections, including a coin collection, miniature farm equipment collection and a truck and tractor collection.

Survivors include his wife, Dolly; two sons, Tom (Pat) Schwickerath and Jim (Carolyn) Schwickerath, both of New Hampton; two daughters, Cathy (Ralph) Steinlage, Lawler and Nancy (Reggie) Humpal, New Hampton; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray (Virginia) Schwickerath, Fredericksburg and Mark (Theresa) Seh w ickera th,- New < Hampton; four listers, Florence (Irv) Throndson, New Hampton, Marge (John) Martin, Humboldt, Sr. Lucia Schwickerath O.S.B., St. Paul, MN and Patsy (Bob) Stricke, Rochester, MN; four sisters-in-law, Marie Leichfman, New Hampton; Henrietta Elenz, North Washington, Kathleen (LaVem) Hilsman, New Hampton and Claudia Schueller, New Hampton.

Preceding him in death were his parents.
