NEW HAMPTON -- Verle L. "Pete" Sauer, 90, New Hampton, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center, New Hampton of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 14 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton with Ken Roberson, Gary Altfill-isch, Peter Altfillisch, David Altfillisch, Joe Altfillisch, Tony Roberson, Justin Roberson, Linus Flick and Richard Nat-vig serving as casket bearers.

visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton where there was a 5:30 p.m. Rosary and 7:30 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation will also be an hour rior to services at the funeral ome.

Verle L. Sauer was born on a farm near Hartley on July 30, 1911, the son of Grover and Belle (Byers) Sauer. He attended the public school at Melvin and graduated with the class of 1929. He farmed for a few years until 1939, when he and another clothier purchased a men's retail clothing store in Britt. On Sept. 3, 1940, he was united in marriage to Virginia Washburn in Humboldt. He operated stores in Britt, Ha-warden and purchased "The Hub" Clothing Store in New Hampton in 1962 and operated it until 1986, when he retired to enjoy a few hobbies: golfing, computing, traveling, photography and others. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; three daughters, Gayle Sauer, Albert Lea, MN, Stephanie (Gary) Altfillisch, Albert Lea, MN and Barbara (Ken) Roberson, Oelwein; five grandsons and three great-grandsons.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Wendel and a nephew.
