NEW HAMPTON - Esther Bertha Pitz, 90, New Hampton, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002 at the New Hampton Care Center of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph Center with Rev. Carl Schmitt celebrating the mass.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with Darrel Browning, Harry Buhre Jr., Jamesr Stanbrough, Paul Pitz, Gerald Pitz and Steve Pitz as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 a t Hugeback Funeral Home where there will be a 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Further visitation is an hour prior to the mass at the church.

Esther was born Jan. 16, 1912 in Jacksonville Township, rural Chickasaw County, the daughter of John and Minnie (Kroenecke) Buhre. She attended rural country school. On Nov. 20, 1933 she was united in marriage to Edmund Pitz at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton. The couple farmed in various places, retiring from the Buhre Family Farm in 1966. Esther entered the New Hampton Care Center in 1992 and enjoyed her many friends there. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Rosary Society.

Survivors include eight nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ed, in 1975; five sisters, Ida Nolte, Clara Biermann, Carrie Nerge, Emma Senenfelder and Bertha Nosbisch and two brothers, Harry Buhre and Edwin Buhre.
