LAWLER - Michael W. Njus, 74, rural Lawler, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002 of heart failure at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Lawler with Reverend Peter D. Peterson presiding.

Interment with military honors will be at New Hampton Cemetery with Michael Buchheit, Rachel Njus, Roger Reicks, Ron Njus, Craig Crooks and Ed Foxen serving as casket bearers. Graveside military rites will be provided by the New Hampton American Legion and VFW Posts.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29 a t Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton and an hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Michael Wallace Njus was born Jan. 16, 1928 in New Hampton, the son of Iver and Clara (Sanderson) Njus. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1946. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Japan as part of the U.S. Occupation Force. After his discharge he married Betty Zweibohmer on June 9, 1949 at . St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Hampton. Mike was recalled into active service in September of 1950 and fougKt in the Korean Conflict. After this discharge, he farmed near Jerico for almost 20 years. After retiring from farming, he sold insurance until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served in numerous capacities. He was a member of the Chickasaw County Republican Central Committee, the Chickasaw County Pork Producers and was very active in the Farm Bureau where he held all county offices at different times.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; one daughter, Diane (Joseph) Valade, Charlottesville, VA; three sons, Mark (Sandra) Njus, Carrollton, TX, Tom Njus and friend Holly Burrack, Cedar Rapids and David Njus, Decorah; three grandchildren and two brothers, Rev. Irving (Marian) Njus, San Antonio, TX and David (Edith) Njus, North Richland Hills, TX.

Preceding him in death wrere his parents and two sisters in infancy.
