WEST POINT - Dorothy M. Merschman, 86, West Point, died Jan. 15, 2002 at the West Point Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18' at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wesf Point, with Rev. David Wilkening officiating.

Burial is in St. James Cemetery, St. Paul, IA.

Visitation was after noon on Thursday, Jan. 17 with family meeting friends from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Link Funeral Home in West Point. A Rosary was recited at 3 .m. and a Christian Vigil service at 7 p.m.

Dorothy was born Jan. 31, 1915 on a farm near Ft. Madison, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Strunk) Krogmeier. She attended a country school for two years, then attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Catholic Central High School in Ft. Madison, graduating in 1931. She married John A. Merschman on Oct. 28, 1941 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ft. Madison. They lived on a farm between West Point and St. Paul. Dorothy was a gardener, quilter and baker, and after moving from the farm to West Point, enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar & Rosary Society, West Point, and was a long time member of the Daughters of Isabella of St. James Church, St. Paul.

 

Surviving are four sons, Don (Shirley) Merschman, St. Louis Park, MN, Frank (Joan) Merschman, Perry, FL, Paul (Sue) Merschman, West Point, Harold (Linda) Merschman, Huntsville, AL; five daughters, Doris (Dan) Sallen, Farmington, Mary Jane (John) * Koehler, Montrose, Ruth (Bob) Lancaster, Cedar Rapids, Rosemary (Tom) Deutsch, New Hampton, Carol (Paul) Clay, La Mesa, CA; 17 grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; one brother, Bernard Krogmeier, Montrose.

Preceding her in death were her husband, John on Nov. 7, 1993; two brothers, Leonard and Richard.

A memorial fund is being established.
