Monica L. Law, 90, of Dyersville, Iowa, died Tuesday,  June 18, 2002, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville, after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 22, 2002, at St. | Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Blake, assisting was Deacon Tom Lang.

Law was born on August 22, 1911 near Rolfe, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Xavier and Annie (McCreary) Rapp. She graduated from St. John’s High School in Gilmore City and attended Jr. College in Fort Dodge, Iowa where she earned a teaching certificate. She taught school in rural Webster County. Monica married John R. Law on October 6, 1934 in j Gilmore City, Iowa. Together they farmed near Baraum, Iowa until 1948 when they moved to Riceville, Iowa and j farmed there until 1993. They then moved to Jewell, Iowa, living there for 4 years until moving to Dyersville in 1997. Monica was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church Altar Society in Riceville and her neighborhood coffee club, You Go, I Go. Monica was a wonderful mother, grandmother and wife. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and having her family near. She set an example for her family by the way she lived.

Survivors include three daughters: Ann (Fred) Marcalus of Jewel, Iowa, Linda (Bill) Nightingale-Bartels of Dyersville, Iowa and Marjorie Peterson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one son, John B. Law of Charles City, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Frances Lang of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; one brother, Jerry (Sharolyn) Rapp of Humbolt, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on August 19, 1999, three grandsons; two daughters-in-law, Bernadette and Norma Law; one brother, Frank Rapp; four sisters, Mary Schultz, Irene, Sr. Mary Mercedes Rapp, Lillian Welter and Celeste Horn.
