ST. LUCAS — Elizabeth Kuennen, 93, St. Lucas, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Hampton of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 at St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Lucas with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the mass. Music was provided by Kathy Meyer as organist and the St. Luke's Choir. The pall was placed on the casket by her seven sons. John Kuennen and Debra Oelberg served as lectors. The offertory gifts were presented by Norbert Kuennen and Kathleen Russler. Mass servers were Kevin and Karl Kuennen.

Interment was in St. Luke’s Cemetery, St. Lucas with grandsons, Kenneth Lukes, Steve Kuennen, Larry Kuennen, Marvin Kuhn, Dean Kuennen, Ronald Kuennen, Norbert Kuennen Jr. and Alan Kuhn as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were her godchildren, Eileen Valdez, Mary Thoma, Susan Kuennen, Debra Oelberg, Lois Kuennen, Nancy Lukes and Alice Conlon.

Visitation was from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at St. Luke’s Chapel, St. Lucas where there was a combined Forester, Rosary Society, Legion Auxiliary and Knights of Columbus Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Further visitation was held one hour prior to the mass at the church on Wednesday.

Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth was born March 24, 1909 on her parent's farm near St. Lucas, the daughter of Theodore B. and Helen Balk Meyer. She attended St. Lucas Catholic School. On Sept. 4, 1928 she was united in marriage to Frank Conrad Kuennen at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, St. Lucas. The couple farmed near St. Lucas until retiring in November of 1970 when they moved into St. Lucas. Elizabeth was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and Rosary Society, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the St. Lucas American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing cards, bingo, crocheting ana visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include seven sons, Norbert (Dolores) Kuennen, St. Lucas, Luke Kuennen, Waucoma, Neil (Irma) Kuennen, Waucoma, Henry (Arlene) Kuennen, Cresco, Greg (Rosemary) Kuennen, Waucoma, Francis (Darlene) Kuennen, Waucoma and Martin (Carol) Kuennen, West Union; five daughters, Mary' Ann (James) Kuhn, Lime Springs, Helen Kuhn (Fred) Williams, Mabel, MN, Laura Lukes, Protivin, Margaret (Gerald) Kuennen, Waucoma and Kathleen (Dennis) Russler, Burnsville, MN; 60 grandchildren; one step-grand-child; 31 great-grandchildren; five step- great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grand-children; one brother, Cletus (Agnes) Meyer, St. Lucas and one sister, Irene Dietzenbach, Waucoma.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Frank, in 1996; one son, David Kuennen, in 1981; three brothers, Leo, Herbert and Fidelis Meyer; four grandchildren and a son-in-law, Robert Kuhn.
