Funeral services for Esther Johnson, formerly of Clear Lake, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 15 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake with Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Interment was in Clear Lake Cemetery. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel handled the arrangements.

Esther, 91, died Friday, April 12, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. She has been a resident at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco for the last two years.

Esther Marie Johnson was born December 11, 1910 at Duncombe, the daughter of Martin and Ella (Jensen) Housken. Esther attended college and taught in a country school for four years. She furthered her education, attending college classes at Ellsworth College, Ft. Dodge Jr. College, and graduated from Upper Iowa University. She taught third grade at Ventura School for 20 plus years.

On June 6, 1933 she married Lloyd Johnson at the Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe. They farmed in Duncombe and Webster City before moving to rural Ventura in 19^7. They later moved to Clear Lake in 1947.

She enjoyed trailer camping and riding her bike.

She is survived by one daughter: Gwendolyn Boeke of Cresco; one son: Roger of Rockford, IL; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother: Wayne of Lake Charles, LA.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband; an infant grandson; her parents, one sister; and an infant brother.
