NEW HAMPTON - Ina Hassman, 92, New Hampton, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at New Hampton Care Center, New Hampton of natural causes.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton with Reverend David Bergstrom and Reverend Kevin Frey officiating.

A Private Family Inurnment will take place at New Hampton Cemetery. Honorary pall bearers will be Zachariah Diercks, Stephen Lines, Annie Lines, Emily Lines and Monica Diercks.

Following the memorial service there will be a time to greet the family in the fellowship hall at the church.

Ina Ernestina Dorfhea Hassman was born Sept. 14,1910 on a farm in Dresden Township, the daughter of Frank and Martha (Drewelow) Zierath. In 1914 she moved with her parents to Boyd, where she lived until 1924, when the family moved to New Hampton. She graduated from New Hampton High School in 1928 after which she taught in the Silverleaf School in Dresden Township for seven years. On June 4, 1935, she was united in marriage to Elmer Hassman a t the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She was baptized and a confirmed member of the American Lutheran Church, Boyd, serving as Sunday and Bible School teacher. She was also a chairman and bible study leader of various circles of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was an active member. She was also active in 4-H in the county, serving for 23 years as a leader, a committee member and 4-H committee chairman. She served three years on the Iowa State Advisory Extension Council in Ames, where she was also employed as an interviewer for the State Statistical Laboratory. She served for nine years on the county board of education, eight years of which, was as chairman of the board. She was an active member of the General Art Club of the New Hampton Federated Women's Club and also served her community in other activities such as fund drives and club committees.

Survivors include a daughter, Dixie Abbas, Plainfield; a son, Alan (Gloria) Hassman, Camp Hill, PA; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers-in law, Frank LeBlond and Paul Hassman and three sisters-in-law, Ruth Zierath, Helen Schilling and Mabel Rietveld.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Elmer, in 1993; three sisters, Vera LeBlond, Erna Fliger and Birdie Zierath; a brother, Walter Zierath; two granddaughters, Carol Abbas and one in infancy; a grandson, Carl Abbas and a son-in-law, Duane Abbas.

Memorials may be directed to the family, in lieu of flowers.
