MT. VERNON, IL — Reverend George D. Freidinger, 70, Mt. Vernon, IL, died Oct 14, 2002, while duck hunting in Devil's Lake, ND.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Mt. Vernon, IL with Reverend Tony Scheefj Reverend Don Beckman and Bishop Warren Freiheit officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Boyd with Reverend David Bergstrom officiating.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Mt. Vernon, IL and will also be an hour prior to services on Friday.

Reverend George D. Freidinger was born Jan. 20, 1932 in Peoria, IL, the son of Clarence and Helen Alstott Friedinger. He attended grade school and high school in Peoria, IL and went on to attend Wartburg College, Waverly, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954. He received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque in 1958. He served a year's internship at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Santa Ana, C A and was ordained into the Lutheran ministry at Zion Lutheran Church, Peoria on June 15,1958. He then attended a clinical training course in conjunction with Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO and the Lutheran Hospital there. His first congregation was St. John's Lutheran Church, Sibley, IL and he also served in Mt. Vernon, IL, Watseka, IL, Peoria, IL and Benton, IL. He retired in 1994 after 36 years as a Lutheran Mission Pastor. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, The Brotherhood of Men in Mission, Big Muddy Chapter of Waterfowl USA Limited and Rend Lake Chapter of Ducks Limited. He was an avid duck hunter.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude (Weidler) Frei-dinger; three daughters, Ruth (Perry). Taylor, Rochester, IL, Karen (Stuart) Young, Lisle, IL and Diane (Don) Pierce, Ames; seven grandchildren and a sister, LuAnn (Millard) Shaw, Bartonville, IL.

Preceding him in death were his parents.
