Emil Kenneth Flugum, 79, formerly of Nashua, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton, Iowa.

Memorial Services were held at Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home in Nashua on Saturday, Oct. 12 with Pastor Dave Kramer officiating.

Emil was born November 15, 1922, on the family farm near Leland, Iowa, the son of Norman and Christina (Holstead) Flugum. He was baptized at the rural Winnebago Lutheran Church.

Emil attended rural schools through the eighth grade. He served his country with the Merchant Marines for three years during WW II. Emil was united in marriage to Katherine M. Enright on August 15, 1948 at Forest City, Iowa. To this union two children were born. Emil farmed near Leland and Riceville for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. At this time Emil and Katherine moved to an acreage north of Nashua. A decline in health caused Emil to enter the Nursing and Rehabilitation Center a year ago.

Emil enjoyed fishing and using his CB radio. He collected toy farm tractors and after retirement enjoyed going to garage sales and selling at flea markets.

Emil is survived by his wife Katherine of Nashua; A son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Janet of Riceville; a daughter, Karen Williams of Clarksville; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin of Leland; two sisters, Eleanor Ott of Albert Lea, Minn, and Hazel Ott of Kent, Wash.

Emil was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Esther Charleson.
