MARSHALLTOWN - Stanley E. Brown, 78, Marshalltown, died Aug. 7, 2002 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Gregory Ellcey presiding.

Interment was in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Marshalltown.

Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 a t Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory, where the family was present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Stanley Eugene was born June 1, 1924 in the Missouri Valley area where he graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1941. He joined the Navy where he served during WWII-. Upon returning home, he attended UNI, formerly Iowa State Teachers College, where he graduated in 1950. He married Lenora Jane Sunday cn March 24, 1951 in the First Congregational Church, Marshalltown. He taught and coached from 1950 to 1953 in Marcus, in New Hampton from 1953 to 1956 and moved to Marshalltown in 1956 where he started working at • Marshall Lumber. He served as Marshalltown Mayor from 1984 to 1992'. He was a member of First Congregational Church, American Legion, V.F.W., Optimist Club and was awarded Mr. Bobcat of the Year. He also was a board member with the Salvation Army and substitute taught at Marshalltown High School.

Survivors include his wife, Lenora; three daughters, Cindy (Larry) Soderberg, Marshalltown, Jodi (Doug) Schmidt, Chicago, IL and Amy (Ron) Delfs, Urbandale; one son, Scott (Mary Turtle) Brown, Seattle, WA; nine grandchildren; and one brother, George Brown, Council Bluffs.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Robert.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Unit at the Iowa Veterans Home.
