Banwell, George 1930 - 2001

IONIA -- George Banwell, 71, died Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 18, 2001 at his farm home east of Nashua of cancer.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Nashua.

Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Nashua.

Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 20 from 3-8 p.m. at Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home in Nashua, with a Rosary at 4 p.m. and Scripture Service at 7 p.m.

George was born Oct. 5, 1930 at Tripoli, the son of George and Cicely (Mooney) Banwell.

He was a 1949 graduate of Nashua High School. On May 31, 1954, George married Mabel Croell at Lawler. He farmed the family farm for 40 years, retiring in 1993.

Surviving are his wife, Mabel; three sons, George, Charles City, Richard, Alta, Bill, Ionia; five daughters, Donna Prouty, Ankeny, Joann Hemmer, Polk City, Ellen Webber, Marion, Carol Spear, Urbandale, Patricia Banwell, Des Moines; 12 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
