NEW HAMPTON ~ Romana Burgart, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Carl Schmitt celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by nephew, Reynold Burgart and nieces, Maryann Christoph and Rosemary Schluetter. Lector for the funeral will be John Winter. The offertory gifts will be presented by Maryann Christoph and Rosemary Schluetter.

Interment will be Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton with Mike Kobliska, Chuck Denner, Dick Sobolik, Randy Kerian, Jeff Schluetter and Reynold Burgart as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 at Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary, a 7 p.m. parish scripture service and a 7:30 p.m. memorial tribute. Further visitation is an hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Romana was born Aug. 9, 1912 near North Washington, the daughter of John and Pauline (Zimmer) Burgart. She attended grade school and high school at St. Mary's in North Washington. Romana owned and operated the Log Cabin Restaurant in New Hampton from the late 1940's until her retirement in 1996. She loved the people who frequented her diner and also enjoyed being outdoors, traveling and going for rides near North Washington and Devon. She became a resident of the New Hampton Care. Center in October of 1999. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.

Survivors include three sisters, Rosella (Al) Bach, New Hampton, Blanche Kobliska, New Hampton and Lucille (Ed) Hosek, Cresco and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Walter Burgart; seven sisters, Victoria Smith, Lillian Denner, Alice Bach, Frances Weber, Teresa Pesek, Olivia Sobolik and Laura Streff.
