Edna Irene Langholz, 78

DENVER - Edna Irene Langholz, 78, Denver, died Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls of natural causes.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver with Pastor Jeffrey K. Chubb officiating.

Burial was in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly.

Visitation was Friday, Jan. 7 from 2-8 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver and for an hour before services at the church.

Edna was born Nov. 12, 1921 in Bristow, the daughter of William and Louise (Wiegmann) Bochmann. She was baptized on Dec. 4, 1921 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vilmar and confirmed April 4, 1936 at St. Jacob's Lutheran Church in Allison. Edna graduated from Bristow High School in 1939 and continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She then taught at the Children's Home (Bremwood) in Waverly. On April 6, 1946, Edna was united in marriage with Rudolph William Langholz in Allison. The couple lived in the Shell Rock and LeGrand areas until moving to Waverly where they operated Westside Grocery from 1949 to 1955.

In 1956, the couple moved to Readlyn.  Edna taught at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Readlyn from 1964 to 1969. In 1969, the family moved to Fort Atkinson, and Edna taught at Turkey Valley until 1986. During this time, she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Upper Iowa University in Fayette in 1979. Her husband died in 1983, and in 1986; Edna moved to Denver where she resided until recently moving to the Cedar Falls Western Home. Edna was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and Mary and Martha Circles in Denver ana was active as a volunteer in the community.

Surviving are five daughters, Melodie Foelske and spouse, Ron, Janesville, Jan Fleming, Ottumwa, Mary Langholz, Cedar Falls, Rita Wurzer and spouse Lauren, Oklahoma City, OK and Susan Langholz and finance Joe Ceccarelli, New York, NY; one son arid his wife, William and Mary Jo Langholz, Lake Benton, MN; 12 grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; one sister, Eileen DeBower, Allison.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Rudy on April 30, 1983; one daughter, Ruth Manderud; two sons in infancy, David and Randy; one son-in-law, Bill Fleming; one sister, Erma Oltmann.

Memorials may be directed to Bremwood Lutheran Children's Home in Waverly.
