Biography of ARTHUR BLAINE CONVERSE
Arthur Blaine Converse was born November 25, 1884 near Protivin, Iowa, the seventh child of Samuel Ambrose and Ellen Munson Converse. He was educated in the Cresco public schools and attended a business and banking school in Minneapolis. He was employed by the First National Bank in Cresco of which his father was president. When his father opened a bank in Hansboro, North Dakota, Arthur was transferred to that bank.
On June 28, 1911, at Cando, North Dakota, he married Amy Frances Brightbill of Cando. They moved to Cresco where all four of their children were born. In 1926, Amy and Arthur returned to North Dakota, living in Devils Lake and in Starkweather where Arthur was engaged in managing his father's estate interests in Hansboro and also in operating a farm implement business.
Arthur and Amy moved to Carrington, North Dakota in 1930 where Arthur operated a bulk oil station. He was president of the Carrington Kiwanis Club and active in the I.O.O.F. as well as a strong supporter of the athletic activities in the local high school.
Arthur died suddenly in Carrington July 26, 1935 from a massive cerebrovascular hemorrhage. Amy died in August 1976. Both are buried in the Cando Cemetery (formerly I.O.O.F. Cando Cemetery), Cando, North Dakota.
