Born on December 12, 1876, in Springfield, Illinois, to Mary Behle, age 18, and Joseph Karrer, age 30. Born and raised in Osceola, Nebraska. Moved to Mt Pleasant around 1902.

He worked as the head Baker for Mt Pleasant State Hospital until his death in April 1938.

Married Vesta Davis of Mt Pleasant, Henry County, May 21 1905. Ceremony was performed by Rev Nicholas, Presbyterian, at the residence of bride's Aunt (paternal) and Uncle, Gus B Jericho, on South White Street. The young couple move to David Francy's cottage on E Monroe St.

Submitted by Granddaughter,

Kenneth Martin Karrer (11) and Bonnie Joyce Karrer (9)

Photo was taken outside their home in Mt Pleasant. Since their father (Edward) was the baker for the State Hospital for the Insane in Mt Pleasant, they lived on the premises. The house has since burnt down, but was located on Deer Path Circle (current street name - I believe is/was call Asylum Lane/Circle at one point).

Salem Weekly NewsSalem Weekly News, c. 1908

In the 1910 Salem Town, Henry Co. IA., Census, Mae Kerr is employed as a "typesetter in a news office". Her daughter, Ethelyn (KERR) BUESING, thought she was told the pic was taken in 1908.

Mae may not be in the picture, but the photo was "well kept". (I see that on a table to the left, the photographer has just set down her gloves to work the camera. I love seeing that!)

In the same census, Mahlon is working as "a salesman in a grocery store."

There is no photographer's name stamped anywhere on this photo.

It is believed that the older man's name is Grandpa Kirkpatrick, with his son, Mark, and Mark's wife, Anna.
