THE FLINT RIVER COMPANY OF 1850
Leslie Saint. Editor and Publisher
The newsletter is about Des Moines and Henry County residents that went to California in 1850--the journey to California, the mining experience, the return trip, life afterward and the lives of their descendants.
Some of the company members and descendants moved to Henry County, Iowa after they returned from California, including the one of the three Coad brothers, Edward Folsom, and William Dobson. Descendants of William and Ephraim Husted, Joseph Fiialkowski, and Miles Babb moved to Henry County, Iowa after the members of the wagon train members returned to Iowa.
My great great grandfather, Samuel T. Saint, and Hamilton H. Box lived in Henry County before the went to California.
My goal is to extend the life of the newsletter by contacting descendants of the wagon train members. I hope to find some type of account of the wagon train journey.
I have established a Flint River Company of 1850 gedcom that includes many of the wagon train members and descendants at the World Connect Project at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=flintriver1 [Due to Ancestry's purchase of Rootsweb, this link may no longer become viable over time, therefore, you will need to copy and paste it into your browser.]
Also I have established a Flint River Company of 1850 account at Find a Grave at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=mr&GSln=Saint&GSfn=Charles&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSst=50&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=30053479&MRid=47010518&df=all&
Finally, I have established a Flint River Company of 1850 Yahoo Group at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/flintriver1850/info
Descendants of the Flint River Company and researchers of other wagon trains from Southeast Iowa to California are welcome to join. The Group serves as repository of original documents used in writing the newsletter articles and other research on the California Gold Rush.
