He married FLORENCE LEIST January 19, 1937 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, daughter of HENRY LEIST and LILLIE SMITH. She was born April 24, 1906 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and died April 1976 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Notes for HAROLD FREDERICK MCLERAN: Harold McLeran Harold F. McLeran, 91, retired attorney and lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant, died at 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 1994, at the Henry County Health Center. Born May 13, 1903, in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Charles E. and Katherine F. Heer McLeran. On Jan. 19, 1937, at Mt. Pleasant, he married Florence Leist who preceded him in death on May 26, 1976. He graduated from the Mt. Pleasant High School in 1921 and received his B.A. degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1925. He received his J.D. degree from the University of Iowa Law School in 1931. He taught at Ouachita Parish high School in Monroe, La., before returning to Mt. Pleasant in 1931 to begin practice as an attorney and abstractor. He retired from active practice in 1986. He was a member of the Iowa and American Bar Associations and was the Senior Member of the Henry County Bar Association. He was a member and Past President of the Iowa Land Title Association and American Land Title Association. He served as County Attorney for Henry County for three terms and was a councilman for the city of mt. Pleasant for one term. He served as attorney for Iowa Wesleyan College and served on the Board of Trustees of the college for many years. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant where he had served on the Building and Organ Committees during the 1950's. He also served on the Board of Trustees for several terms. An active outdoorsman, he served on the Henry Co. conservation Board from 1969 to 1982. He was active with Boy Scouts and was Past President of the Southeast Iowa Council of Boy Scouts. He assisted local scouts with three trips to the Philmont Boy Scout Camp at Cimmeron, N.M. He was a 50 year member of the Mt. Pleasant Masonic Lodge No. 8 and the Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis Club where he was Past President and Lt. Governor. He was Past president of the Henry Co. Board of Education, past Director of the Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, past Treasurer of the Henry Co. Red Cross and was a member and past officer of the Midwest Central Railroad. His love of travel and trains took him all over the world riding passenger trains. He is survived by one son, Robert H. McLeran, CAPT., JAGC, USN of Annandale, Va; one daughter, Mrs. Jimmy (Mary) Miller of De Witt, Iowa; give grandchildren, and one sister, Ruth Ruhnke of Eldora, Iowa. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, C. Thornton McLeran; and one sister, Helen Colby. Open visitation will begin at noon on Friday, Sept. 16, at Weir funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. There will be no family visitation. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the First United methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Kim Crummer officiating. Internment will be held in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist church, Boy Scouts, or the transportation van at Mapleleaf Healthcare Center.
