LORENZO K. MOORE

Perseverance and sterling worth are almost always sure to win conspicuous recognition in all localities. Lorenzo K. MOORE, president of the Dunlap State Bank of Dunlap, Harrison county, Iowa, while still a young man in years, has long been recognized as one of the leading citizens of this section. He affords an excellent example of a successful, self-made man who is not only eminently deserving of the confidence reposed in him by his fellow citizens, but who also possesses the necessary energy and talent which fit him to worthily discharge the duties of any responsibility with which he may be entrusted. A man of vigorous mentality and strong moral fibre he lends a wholesome influence to whatever enterprise he may be connected with.

Lorenzo K. MOORE is a native son of Dunlap, born on February 6, 1879, son of Benjamin and Nellie E. (KELLOGG) MOORE. The father is a native of Lawrence county, Pennsylvania, and the mother came from Connecticut, being brought to this section by her father in 1857, at the tender age of three years. The elder MOORE settled in Dunlap immediately upon coming to this state, where he and his wife still reside, and has for many years been known as one of the leading farmers and stock breeders of this section.

Lorenzo K. MOORE is one of a family of six children of whom three, Clara, Anna and Daisy, are deceased. Alexander P. and David are both residents of Dunlap, where David is engaged in the hardware business. Mr. MOORE received his elementary education in the common schools of Dunlap, attending the higher grades at Missouri Valley. He attended Drake University at Des Moines for special training along business lines, remaining there two terms. Upon returning to Dunlap, he entered the State Bank as a bookkeeper, serving in that capacity for six years. At the end of that time he was elected to the position of paying and receiving teller, where he remained for four years, when he was made assistant cashier. That office he retained for six years and was in 1914 elected president of the institution. His rise has been steady and gradual, due to his excellent business ability and genuine worth.

On September 7, 1904, Mr. MOORE was united in marriage with Miss Alice G. SMITH, whose parents are natives of the state of Pennsylvania and early settlers in the eastern part of this state. Mrs. MOORE was born in Mount Vernon, received her elementary school training in her native town and was in later years graduated from Cornell College and the conservatory of music at Mount Vernon. To Mr. and Mrs. Moore have been born two daughters, Rebecca J., born June 17, 1906, and Helen S., born August 19, 1907.

Mr. MOORE is actively connected with various enterprises of his native city, having served Dunlap as city treasurer for fifteen years. He also is president of the Commercial Club, a live body of men seeking in all directions the advancement of community interests. Aside from the duties devolving upon him as president of the State Bank, Mr. MOORE finds time to direct the operations of one thousand acres of land which he owns in Harrison and Crawford counties, paying attention both to regular farming and the raising of considerable live stock. He also deals in real estate, buying and selling farms in the immediate vicinity of Dunlap.

Mr. MOORE holds his religious fellowship in the Congregational church, in the work of which society he is interested. His fraternal affiliation is with the ancient order of Freemasonry, being connected with that order through the local lodge at Dunlap and also with the chapter at the same place. For the higher degrees, including the Scottish Rite, he went to Des Moines, which at Sioux City he is affiliated with the Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He is also a member of the Knights of Pythias through the local lodge at Dunlap. Politically, Mr. MOORE is a stanch supporter of the Republican party. He is a pleasant man to meet, genial and courteous, and he holds high rank among the representative citizens of Harrison county, where his entire life has been passed.
